MARTHA D. SAUNDERS, PRESIDENT
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI
(February 14, 2008) Special Report A Booze Accounting USM Alcohol Problems Increase During Saunders' First Year
Data released recently by the USM Police Department (USMPD) indicates that the number of liquor law violations on
the USM campus increased dramatically during 2007, USM President Martha Saunders' first year at the helm.
According to Erica Sherrill Owens' story for The Student Printz entitled "Alcohol related arrests increase," the
USMPD reported 176 liquor law violations in 2007, compared to just 75 in 2006, representing an increase of 135%
over that time period.
(March 12, 2008) Positive and upbeat is one thing, this is another While undoubtedly some people enjoy your blog, Dr.
Saunders, what is the point of it? You seldom inform the Southern Miss community of anything except your past
outings, and the blog frequently reads like a sorority text message update that many people will need a key to
interpret. It is simply not worth that much effort.
(March 14, 2008) Is Saunders as Good as Foglesong? We'll Know in 15 Months Many USM constituents are beginning
to wonder just how good USM President, Martha Saunders, is. Many are also wondering about the quality of the
other unknown, secret finalists that were considered by Thomas Meredith, Mississippi's IHL Commissioner, before
Saunders was selected. While the latter question may never be adequately answered, we may soon have some
information to assist us in answering the first question: How good is Saunders?
(March 17, 2008) Hillary missed a chance at this? In an earlier blog we were informed that Senator Hillary Clinton
appearing in Hattiesburg did not fit into Dr. Saunders time schedule so she did not stay to try to meet with her. Had
Senator Clinton known of the potential future photo ops (see below), and challenges of, for example, judging chili
contests, we feel sure she would have freed up her schedule to accommodate Dr. Saunders.
(March 23, 2008) Special Report "Where All of 'the Magic' Happens" An Investigative Report on Martha's $300,000+
Boudoir Makeover According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the 2007 median value of new
homes in Mississippi stood at $135,000. Unfortunately for Mississippi's taxpayers, this figure is less than 45 percent
of the amount of money that USM President, Martha Saunders, requested to renovate her boudoir in the President's
mansion in Hattiesburg. According to the official Minutes of the IHL Board Meeting of 14-Nov-07, Saunders
requested, and was awarded, $300,000 to renovate her boudoir (see below).
