(May 28, 2010) It’s Simple . . . Not Much! How CoB Administrators Continue to Associate with Thamesian Thinkers Way back on 25-Sept-07 USMNEWS.net asked the question: How Much has Really Changed? That report contained “The Debrow Photos,” showing that then-new USM president Martha Saunders was socializing with the likes of Fred and Bonnie Drews, two staunch supporters of the disastrous Shelby F. Thames administration (2002-07) of USM (the Debrow photo of Saunders with Fred and Bonnie Drews is inserted below).
(June 3, 2010) BP Oil Spill Threatening Pensacola Beach Is President Saunders’ Beach Home in Harm’s Way? Reports from various national news media indicate that the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster is now threatening the Florida panhandle. The first area in jeopardy is said to be Pensacola Beach, the “favorite place,” outside of the Pine Belt, of USM president Martha Saunders, at least according to her May-2010 “Q&A” with Signature Magazine (see insert below).
(June 3, 2010) Special Report Hovering Lieutenants A Look at Thames Era Leaders who Remain Near the Top of USM The ongoing USM Research Foundation (Pinion Properties) scandal involving Jay Grimes and Richard Hadden, two highly-placed officials from the Shelby Thames administration (2002-07), coupled with the mystery surrounding the recent “resignation” announcement from USM chief financial officer Joe Morgan, another former Thames administration executive, highlights the perils facing current USM president Martha Saunders from retaining/relying on the former president’s lieutenants.
(June 6, 2010) Aunt Martha’s Pastime A Look at How USM’s Prez is Managing Athletics (baseball) The “Banner Year” series here at USMNEWS.net has pointed out that USM’s varsity sports programs appear to be slipping under USM president Martha Saunders’ stewardship. This report examines how Saunders has been managing, or as the data below suggest, possibly mismanaging, the baseball program at USM. Though the overall win percentage for USM baseball from 2007-08 through 2009-10 is 62.1%, a figure that is not terrible, the information that follows Table 1 is likely somewhat troubling for Eagles fans.
(June 8, 2010) Down and Dirty A Guest Editorial by Susan Greene-Lewis Sometimes the bedfellows-ism at USM is stranger than strange. Such is the case in the new photo posted on the front page of usm.edu, wherein USM president Martha Saunders is shown with Jimmy Buffett and a number of USM Gulf Coast Research Lab scientists, including Jay Grimes, a former USM provost.
(June 8, 2010) Aunt Martha’s Sandbox A Look at How USM’s Prez is Managing Athletics (all men's and women's) The “Banner Year” series here at USMNEWS.net has pointed out that USM’s varsity sports programs appear to be slipping under USM president Martha Saunders’ stewardship. This report examines how Saunders has been managing, or as the data below suggest, mismanaging, athletics at USM. The numbers in Table 1 below make the case that USM’s sports program has been floundering since Saunders’ arrival back in spring of 2007. The overall win percentage for all sports from 2007-08 through 2009-10 is a paltry 49.0%.
