MARTHA D. SAUNDERS, PRESIDENT
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI
(September 21, 2009) Dang! What It Means to Be a Golden Eagle Are things this bad, Martha? As previous reports have
indicated, the worse the news, the more innocuous your blog updates are. Therefore, based on the above: dang! How
about discussing some of those budgetary items?
(September 28, 2009) CoB News, 28 September 2009 Is USM a Cesspool? The Hattiesburg American has published
another story involving a lawsuit against USM. This time the story was written by THA's managing editor Dan Davis
(entitled Eagle Walk incident prompts suit against USM), and this time the plaintiff is former USM assistant athletics
director Greg Herring, who claims that he was faced with the choice of resigning or being fired by USM president
Martha Saunders back in the fall of 2008. According to Herring, the choice resulted from his decision to commence
USM's "Eagle Walk" against East Carolina despite the fact that Saunders had not arrived at the proper location at M.M.
Roberts Stadium at the time.
(September 30, 2009) Like We Said Before, Martha Nice to hear... Now that we all warm and fuzzy, how many staff
people are about to be terminated for the most recent round of budget cuts? How about further program eliminations?
The new Commissioner is on campus Wednesday; no news on that? Any hope of a mid-year tuition increase? How
about a tuition increase for next year? Get in the game, Martha. You are not paid this much to be a spectator.
(October 7, 2009) Back to the Future SAUNDERS ADMINISTRATION BRINGS BACK FACULTY CLUB The Martha
Saunders administration of USM has retrieved the baggage of USM's past and resurrected the USM faculty club. The
new University Club is set to hold an open house on 13-Oct-09. The admission is free, and visitors will have access to
complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a reduced-rate cash bar. As one USMNEWS.net source stated, however, now (amidst
economic turmoil and budget crises) isn't exactly the best time for the Saunders administration to support alcohol
consumption across the USM faculty/staff ranks. On the other hand, that administration isn't widely known for sound
judgment and critical-thinking skills. Enjoy the invitation below.
