(July 1, 2008) Perks for Buds X The Parham Bridges Chair of Real Estate: Missing in Action Once upon a time, in what seems
like the distant past, some real estate professionals kindly donated money to the CoB to be used in real estate education.
While no one wants to ever divulge the truth in the CoB, the story is told that this money is to be used only for real estate
education purposes. Any other use is a violation of the terms of the agreement and such use of the money should be repaid.

NAMED PROFESSORSHIPS
(July 1, 2008 ) Perks for Buds IX The McCarty Professorship Dr. Chang Hsieh is a Professor of MIS and the McCarty
Professorship holder for many years. This professorship is awarded for a two-year term. Hsieh has held onto this prize for
several terms in a row. The assumption is because of a lack of genuine competition for it since Don Davis retired. As usual,
there is more at work here than that.
(July 3, 2008) "Dr. Lai . . . Come on Down!" From Once Secret Vitae to 2009 Louis K. Brandt Predictions Our recent series on
the 2009 Louis K. Brandt Faculty Research Award has drawn significant interest among readers. The results of that series'
predictions were even discussed by assistant professor of accounting, Mary Anderson, in a recent federal court deposition.
Given that former interim CoB dean, Alvin Williams, had CoB faculty vitae uploaded to USM.edu just before departing for
the University of South Alabama, USMNEWS.net reporters decided to re-run the analysis using these public CoB faculty
research records (2007-08) in order to provide alternative predictions on the LKBRA.
(July 18, 2008) Special Report Beachfront Value An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research Credentials The intrigue
surrounding the real estate program in USM's business school is one that would make for a good backdrop to a John Grisham
novel. It begins with the late Charles Cartee, a former professor of real estate at USM who raised hundreds of thousands of
dollars to support the Parham Bridges Real Estate Professorship. For a brief period, at least, Cartee held that professorship.
After that, earnings from the PBRE endowment disappeared, at least as far as the relevant CoB faculty were concerned.
(September 18, 2008) CoB News, 18 September 2008 Distinguished Salaries A number of recent reports here at
USMNEWS.net have examined the 2008-09 faculty and staff salaries in USM’s business school. What has not been examined
heretofore are the potential salaries of the CoB’s distinguished professors. There are currently five of these:
(September 19, 2008) Perks for Buds XVII Musical Professorships – MIS The McCarty Professorship was established to
provide additional financial rewards for MIS research. In reality, the McCarty Professorship (MP) has lost most of its prestige
and meaning after Don Davis relinquished it. Chang Hsieh, Professor of MIS, has occupied the MP for years, mostly by
default.
(September 19, 2008) Perks for Buds XVIII Musical Professorships – Real Estate The Parham Bridges Real Estate
Professorship, or Real Estate Chair, or Real Estate Fund; it has been so long since anyone has seen evidence of its existence
that it is believed to be missing or abducted. The CoB and USM do not have nearly enough resources for that to happen. This
money has been rumored for years to have been used for non-real estate purposes under the Gunther-Niroomand and
Doty-Niroomand years.
