Dear usmnews.net, I don't know why Russ Willis stepped down from a high level administrative job [Vice President for Administrative Affairs], but I'd be surprised if it was overwork as suggested during a recent Faculty Senate meeting.
The Farm News Briefs from Southern Miss 10-February-2012 Round-Trip Ticket According to new paperwork obtained via the Mississippi Open Records Act by USMNEWS.net regarding the USM Beechcraft King Air, the lease between USM and the USM Foundation for the Beechcraft airplane appears to have been extended through 2019. Dear usmnews.net, I read last week's The Farm. I have two questions. How did Martha sneak the extension for her toy airplane past everyone without the usual round of bad publicity? What were the changes in the lease terms?

Did Byxbe Smell the Tabletgate Smoke? Left Contracts Office Just Weeks before Scandal Broke Based on information recently provided to USMNEWS.net, it appears that John J. Byxbe left the USM contracts office just weeks before details of the Tabletgate scandal at USM became public.
The CoB's Brain Drain Compilation, 2003-Present An Illustrated Account There is little argument with the notion that the College of Business at USM has been severely diminished by the faculty flight that has occurred since former CoB dean, Harold Doty, assumed the reins of management. Doty's tenure began in 2003, when he was hired by former USM President, Shelby Thames, to lead the newly reorganized College of Business & Economic Development.

Cost Per Flight Hour Costs and Uses of King Air N777AQ At the University of Southern Mississippi The purpose of this report is to show readers how to calculate cost per flight hour and use it to determine the cost of flights of N777AQ. We will also show why, in detail, cost per flight hour changes through time, but has in fact remained from beginning of the lease/purchase of N777AQ to the current time, over $5,500, not the $800 as claimed by President Saunders.

All My Children? USM Sports Programs not Treated Equally, at Least not by Gender A number of USMNEWS.net readers have commented about their perception of how USM’s sports programs are being supported, or not, on the basis of gender by the upper levels of athletics administration at USM. This is a subject that USMNEWS.net reporters and editorial writers have touched on in the past. This report examines this perception by way of the 2010-11 data.

Dear usmnews.net, Thanks for the reports on Martha's airplane. I'm sure all of our students are overjoyed to pay higher and higher tuition and fees so that she can fly in her private plane. For someone who claims to be an expert in public relationship, it is difficult to believe Saunders is really so stupid and self-centered that she does not understand or care

31st & Pearl Not Once Not once. Not once has a sitting CoB dean used the position as a stepping stone to another, better one. Only one former CoB dean went on to later become a business school dean at another institution. That was Harold Doty, the former CoB leader who USMNEWS.net columnist Duane Cobb ranks at the bottom of all-time USM business college deans.

Lost List Ranking A Column from Susan Green-Lewis All of the ranking reports here at USMNEWS.net of late are intriguing, as are recent reports highlighting the human resources disaster that resulted during the tumultuous Harold Doty administration (2003-07) of the CoB. Since 2003, nearly 100 faculty have departed one CoB unit or another, and the cost of this exodus in terms of lost scholarship has been well documented here at USMNEWS.net.

The Dean’s List, 2012 by Duane Cobb Ranking all things USM and all things CoB has become a tradition here at USMNEWS.net. This particular column revisits a past ranking endeavor – ranking past CoB deans. Since USM has had a formal business college, there have been only a handful of deans. So, this task is not made difficult by the number of administrators to consider. Interestingly enough, the disparate performances of the CoB’s deans also makes this particular effort a little easier. Let’s begin.
The Truth. The Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth (Well maybe not...) December 2008 was a long time ago. Faculty and administrators have come and gone, but President Saunders got her airplane and according to the Foundation financial records is committed to keeping it through 2019.
