It's Hardly Prescience Maybe usmnews.net should trumpet its prescience, but who didn't think this was coming. Even the Hattiesburg American is hinting what many are thinking: "Aubrey Lucas, daughter relish their jobs." (September 3, 2012) A cute article that may among other things prepare the community for the transfer of power from father to daughter.

Updated 4-Sept-2012 HELP WANTED A Look at Business Dean Openings from Around the Country With four current/former CoB deans moving around in the academic world, some USMNEWS.net readers have requested an ongoing report that tracks current b-school dean openings.
Updated Aunt Martha’s Coaches Did Saunders Lose the Magic Touch? Or, Did She Ever Have It? After the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater won the Division III national championship in 2007, former USM President Martha Saunders blogged that during the 2006-07 academic year while Chancellor at UW-W she had hired the first-year coach who led UW-W to the title.

Editorial Doty's Accusing Someone of Plagiarism? That Harold Doty is accusing anyone of plagiarism is peculiar, to say the least. While Dean of USM's College of Business, Doty's adamant advocacy of copying "without proper citation" appears to, in effect, legitimize plagiarism. What in the h-e-double-l is Doty up to, now?

Faculty Senators Slam IHL Board over Search Robinson Faces Faculty Ire in Visit to USM Campus As The Hattiesburg American higher education reporter Ed Kemp wrote on 8-Sept-2012, IHL Board member Robin Robinson visited the USM faculty senate on 7-Sept-2012 to speak about the status of the search for former USM president Martha Saunders’ replacement.
Robinson Contradicts Lucas on Search Deadline In their 6-Sept-2012 story for The Student Printz entitled “. . . Lucas says ‘hello’,” Mary Margaret Halford and Tyler Hill report that “[USM interim president Aubrey] Lucas said when he was first approached about the [interim president] position in the spring [of 2012], the timeline for hiring a new president [to replace former USM president Martha Saunders] was still under discussion, but the goal was Jan. 1[, 2013].”

Rouse's Behavior Becoming Bizarre: IHL Board Member Hangs up on Local Paper According to The Hattiesburg American's higher education reporter Ed Kemp, IHL Board member Douglas Rouse has recused himself from membership on the IHL's presidential search committee that will, in 2013, name a successor to former USM president Martha Saunders.
Dear usmnews.net, Other than the IHL and a few administrators, nobody on campus seems very interested in the identity of the new Prez. The IHL will cram someone down the faculty's throat after a secret search.

Well . . . What's the Decision? Did Dr. Rouse Violate Ethical Standards? Dr. Douglas W. Rouse is the subject of this finding of ethical misconduct first decided on July 16, 2012. And Dr. Rouse is still a member of the IHL.
A watermark across the opinion states, "This opinion is currently being reconsidered."

Creative? Bold? Determined? by Duane Cobb Martha Saunders and Mona Amodeo's idgroup created a theme for Southern Miss -- Creative. Bold. Determined. The question is just how CREATIVE Saunders and idgroup really are -- or at least what they pass off as creative.

What's Really Important? The most recent US News & World Report places USM at the bottom of the national academic community -- again. Yet, when, in USM's 100 year history of sports and academics, has there been a spontaneous outpouring from alumni and sports fans insisting on raising USM from its Tier IV (bottom) academic status?

No Presents, No Cake . . . Again A Guest Editorial Today is like Christmas day to so many U.S. colleges and universities. Well, maybe that’s overstating things a little. Still, it’s at least like a birthday, with presents and cake. Those presents and cake come once a year, and in the form of a ranking

Dear usmnews.net, Don't know if you have been watching, but the Hattiesburg Listening Sessions have been pretty interesting. One common theme seems to be turmoil and turnover. I agree. Southern Miss has had plenty of both and they are probably related.

Gerald Case So Familiar by Now, A Guest Editorial by C. Anna Hall The recent news from Jesse Bass of The Hattiesburg American informing us that former USM professor Bonnie Gerald has filed an employment discrimination lawsuit against USM, naming also former USM president Martha Saunders, former USM provost Robert Lyman,

President Saunders' Last Days Squandering Students' and Taxpayers' Money Part 7 What does it cost to accommodate a bureaucrat's schedule? On April 27, 2012, then-President Martha Saunders announced her "retirement."
Dear USM News, Your stories about the latest lawsuit against Southern Miss and Martha Saunders were very interesting. I think there is a popular feeling on campus that Kathy Yadrick was promoted to associate dean to keep her “on board” as it were when it comes to the lawsuit she is now involved with.
