(November 4, 2008) Fedora Gets the High-Hat Treatment from the President? The offense scores 70 points, the defense
gives up few points, a big win for Homecoming, and nothing on Martha’s blog. Maybe the week of festivities leading
up to the game was too much of a “Thriller” for her. Maybe she is telling Coach Fedora what she thinks of his first
season. Stay tuned for Aunt Martha’s next installment of silence.
(October 7, 2008) CoB News, 7 October 2008 Aunt Martha’s Maalox Moments With the recent home loss to the
University of Texas at El Paso, Larry Fedora’s USM Golden Eagles have fallen to 2-3 on the season and a #88 ranking by
Jeff Sagarin. At #88 in the U.S., Southern Miss is ranked behind no fewer than four 1-AA football teams. These are
James Madison, McNeese State, Villanova and New Hampshire. The double-overtime loss to UTEP also has the
Golden Eagles in unchartered territory, at 0-2 in Conference USA play. Now, with a game against Boise State looming
over the horizon,USM’s 14 consecutive winning seasons, all under former coach Jeff Bower, is in serious jeopardy.
(September 24, 2008) CoB News, 24 September 2008 View from the Luxury Suite With USM’s 27-34 loss to Marshall
University on Saturday, the “Golden Eagle Nation” has grown anxious about the Golden Eagles’ new head coach, Larry
Fedora. Saturday’s loss made for two firsts in USM gridiron history: (1) USM had never lost to a Conference USA opener
before Saturday, and (2) USM had never lost to Marshall University before Saturday. These two firsts were seen by new
USM President, Martha Saunders, from her luxury suite in the south end zone of M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg.
While Fedora’s USM mantra has been “Sound the Attack!”, with the recent loss to MU many USM fans are now
chanting “Sound the Retreat!”
(February 6, 2009) Time for Saunders to Consider Some Real Cuts Despite winning a Conference-USA regular season
championship and taking the USM men's basketball team to two post-season NIT tournaments, former head coach
James Green was fired by USM president Shelby Thames and USM athletics director Richard Giannini. According to
these officials, Green was let go after the 2003-04 season for failing to put fans in the stands at USM's Reed Green
Coliseum.
