(March 12, 2008) Good Time Charlie Charles Sawyer, CoB retiree, professor at TCU, and confidante to the smiling assassin, George Carter, was once again on his old stomping grounds the Friday before spring break week, sources tell us. He was here – nominally – to present a paper. He was probably here – with or without direct funding – to write-off his trip home from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. That creativity is laudable. That is the same self-serving maneuver that Sawyer specialized in his entire USM CoB career. This time he even received pizza and soda.

(June 24, 2008) A Look Inside Pedagogy, the Sawyer Way Pedagogy is a term that is tossed around university campuses like a beach ball at Panama City in July. Pedagogical considerations are used to justify a faculty member’s course assignments, to overlook a faculty member’s poor publication record, to bolster a thin achievement record when a faculty member is up for promotion or a raise, or to remove a faculty member from the classroom because his or her selected subject matter doesn’t please his or her colleagues.

(August 1, 2008) CoB News, 1 August 2008 Sawyer Solid at TCU According to INSIDE HIGHER ED, former CoB economist, Charles Sawyer, has been awarded tenure in economics at Texas Christian University. Sawyer left the CoB at the end of the 2006-07 academic year to become the Hal Wright Professor of Latin American Economics at TCU. Sawyer's research productivity over the past few years, which is shown in Table 3 below, appears to lack the quality seen from other faculty who have exited ECO over the past few years.
(December 11, 2008) CoB News, 11 December 2008 Sawyer and the Birds of a Feather There are four former CoB economists who departed the CoB for other institutions since former CoB dean Harold Doty’s arrival in July of 2003. These are Melody Lo, Franklin Mixon, Charles Sawyer, and Sunny Wong, and these four are now with the University of Texas – San Antonio, Auburn University, Texas Christian University, and the University of San Francisco, respectively. Three of these institutions are Tier II universities (AU, TCU and USF). Of these four, Sawyer landed what is arguably the most prestigious appointment, as he is now the Hal Wright Professor of Latin American Economics at the Tier II TCU.
(December 17, 2008) "Deep in the Heart . . ." A LOOK AT WHAT FACULTY ARE DOING TO ESCAPE THE COB Former CoB economics professor Charles Sawyer's journey since leaving the CoB after the 2006-07 academic year has been an interesting one. Sawyer joined Texas Christian University's ADDRAN College of Liberal Arts in August of 2007 as its Hal Wright Professor of Latin American Economics.
