(April 20, 2009) Spreading Their Wings Unique A-Level Publishing Across Former CoBers The recent series Our Most Talented Colleagues revealed some interesting information about the number of unique A-level journal publications across those who departed USM's CoB since 2003. This report puts together some of that information in Table 1 below.
(April 28, 2009) Citations in a Doty-less CoB A Look at the Latest CoB Google Scholar Data without Harold DotyThe recent report about departing CoBer Harold Doty's total Google Scholar cites count of more than 2,180 opened the eyes of newer visitors to USMNEWS.net. This report looks at what is being left behind in the CoB after the dual departure of Harold (MGT) and Susan Doty (ECO), who are soon to be joining the administration and faculty at the University of Texas at Tyler. The GS citations of most of the remaining CoBers are shown below in Table 1.
(June 12, 2009) Journal Ranking Malpractice The recent update to the popular CoB's Brain Drain Illustrated History (part III) series presents some interesting statistics. To date, the faculty who departed the CoB for other academic environs in 2003 and thereafter have published articles in more than 100 unique academic journals. Of these, about 25% are A-level journals, which is simply phenomenal. Also interesting is the sheer number of journal outlets in this series that were not rated at all by the CoB's 2007-08 Journal Ranking Committee, which was headed by untenured economist Sami Dakhlia.
(update June 24, 2009) Brain Drain Elites The new USMNEWS.net series, "The CoB's Brain Drain, 2003-Present: An Illustrated History," shows just how costly the faculty flight has been since the administration of former CoB dean D. Harold Doty began. That series does so through illustration -- it allows USMNEWS.net readers to view the journal covers
(update June 24, 2009) Brain Drain Good and Plenty The new USMNEWS.net series, "The CoB's Brain Drain, 2003-Present: An Illustrated History," shows just how costly the faculty flight has been since the administration of former CoB dean D. Harold Doty began. That series does so through illustration -- it allows USMNEWS.net readers to view the journal covers representing the publishing being done by those who have fled the CoB since 2003. As that series indicates, former CoB faculty who exited Greene Hall since 2003 have collectively published in 22 unique B-level journals over the past 5 years. This report presents only those 22 journal covers, which all appear after the alphabetical list of the 22 journals below. USMNEWS.net reporters hope that you will take a moment to consider, through the list and picture gallery below, the toll of the Doty administration of USM's CoB.
(July 22, 2009) The Gappy Band Mention in "Klinedinst Led Academic Council in Absenteeism during 2008-09" of the fact that CoB economics professor Mark Klinedinst has not published an article in an indexed academic journal since 1998 has USMNEWS.net reporters thinking again about "gappy" (former EFIB chairman George Carter's term) research records in the CoB. It makes sense to re-examine the gappyness in ECO, since it is Klinedinst who has us walking down memory lane once again. The current journal publication gaps in ECO are shown in Table 1 below.
