(January 13, 2009) CoB Human Resources Update January, 2009 This month's issue of CoB Human Resources Update
begins with the CoB's accountants, whose research dereliction almost cost the SAIS, and the CoB, accreditation (by the
AACSB) in 2007. Though it represents, as reported earlier, a significant case of slipstreaming, assistant professor Mary
Anderson was published in Advances in Accounting in 2008. Also in 2008, Anderson joined (again in a slipstreaming
effort) CoB accounting professors Stanley Clark and Charles Jordan on a publication in the Journal of Business &
Economics Research.
(January 12, 2009) GH Chatter Discussions continue about dean Lance Nail's plan to develop standards for differential
teaching loads. Just hearing that such a plan is in the works is enough to scare some of the CoB's old-timers, who feel
entitled to their cushy teaching loads despite having written off research. The development of a sincere differential
teaching load policy would be a major step in the right direction for USM's business school. Because that is so, some are
saying don't count on it happening any time soon.
(January 14, 2009) CoB News, 14 January 2009 “75 Unique” by 31st & Pearl Columnist The most recent update to
USMNEWS.net’s The CoB's Brain Drain, 2003-Present -- Part 2 indicates that those former CoB faculty who left the CoB
after the arrival of former CoB dean Harold Doty have now published in 75 unique journals under their new institutional
umbrellas. This figure is simply astonishing. The number of unique journals involved would itself comprise a nice serials
subscription list (in business) for a smallish public institution of higher ed. Of these 75, more than 20 are A-level journals, a
tremendous feat in its own right. Wouldn’t the CoB love to have all of these in its current portfolio?
(January 23, 2009) CoB News, 26 January 2009 Former CoBers Lopez & Kozar Breaking Out Again From the recent update
to the CoB's Brain Drain, Part 2, former CoB marketing faculty Tara Lopez, now an assistant professor of marketing at
Southeastern Louisiana University, is back on the research march. Lopez recently published articles in both the Journal of
Business Case Studies and the Journal of Diversity Management.
(January 29, 2009) CoB News, 30 January 2009 Crowning King Lai Supported by two recent publications, accounting
professor Marc DePree climbed out of a three-way tie for 10th and into sole possession 9th place in the race for the 2009
Louis K. Brandt Research Award. On the basis of an additional publication, CoB economics professor Edward Nissan
jumped from 16th place to 14th place.
