(December 28, 2007) 2007 Christmas Gifts Joseph Peyrefitte The Interim Associate Dean received perhaps the best gift of all. His year of service as AD is halfway done, which is a big deal according to sources, who say that Peyrefitte is not fond of his administrative position within the CoB. Peyrefitte's situation is an interesting one. Sources say he was gearing up to leave USM at the time Williams approached with the Interim AD offer. After spending a year in administration, Peyrefitte's research agenda is not on the same track it was on previously. Has this year altered Peyrefitte's chances of leaving? We'll have to wait and see.
(February 10, 2008) And then who? Tony Henthorne, current Chair of about half of the CoB, is making it clear to anyone who will listen that he does not want to be Chair of MKT/MGT/FM next year. He received no extra money for this job, he claims, and did it as a favor for Interim Dean Williams (as speculated here previously). Given the rocky year at the helm, it is no wonder he seeks the relative solitude of only Tourism Management. It is time to enjoy the fine new suite the CoB provided for him. Before moving on to the proposed post-Henthorne year(s), let’s recap some of the low-lights of the year for Dr. Henthorne:
(May 19, 2008) (corrected and updated May 21, 2008) Special Report Is Doty Lucky to be at USM? An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research Credentials The new USMNEWS.NET series, "Carrying HoDo . . .," has been a popular one among our readers. This report takes advantage of some of the leftover investigation work-product from that series in order to provide some additional information about former CoB Dean Harold Doty's research record. The information below will likely be of great interest to much of our readership.
(June 20, 2008) CoB Human Resources Update July, 2008 During the 2006-07 academic year, the CoB's AACSB woes were a major area of coverage by reporters here at USMNEWS.net. And as reported here, the source of many of the CoB's difficulties was the lack of scholarly activity. The CoB's problems in this area were reportedly widespread, and usually when such problems arise in a business school setting, the issue has many tentacles. The same can be said for the CoB, as so many reports and editorials at USMNEWS.net have indicated.
(August 27, 2008) Dean Nail Speaks An Analysis of the New CoB Dean's 27-Aug-08 E-Mail to Faculty and Staff • Nail begins by naming Joseph Peyrefitte as the new, permanent associate dean for the CoB. Nail attributes this choice to Peyrefitte's popularity in the CoB, a point USMNEWS.net sources did not refute. They do point out, however, that Peyrefitte's research program, which was not stellar to begin with, has likely been seriously hampered by his recent stint as interim AD. As such, Peyrefitte's acceptance of Nail's AD offer was likely borne out of necessity.
