(September 28, 2007) 31st & Pearl Accounting Students Beware One of the highlights of the 31 August 2007 CoB faculty convocation was the attempt by Patty Munn (instructor of accounting), Gwen Pate (associate professor of accounting) and George Carter (professor of economics) to convince the rest of the CoB's faculty that they, the CoB faculty, are within their rights to deny their students the opportunity to drop a course after passing the mid-semester official drop date.

(April 6, 2008) The Doty Sidestep: How to Bypass Faculty Governance Part 5: Academic Suspension Policy
(April 21, 2008) Ghost of Christmas Future Editorial Cartoon Dear First-Year Business Students, Congratulations on choosing Southern Miss' College of Business for your educational pursuits. The faculty in each of our four departments and schools think with one mind, so you won't face any confusion from the diversity of thought that is often encountered by students majoring in one of USM's four other colleges. As you progress in your academic careers, some of you will meet with varying degrees of success, while others of you will fail. Should you become one of the students who faces academic suspension at some time in your career here, please don't hesitate to stop by and talk to me, regardless of your choice of major. The COB's Undergraduate Services Director is Gwen Pate, and she has the final say in overturning the college suspension committee's decision to deny your hardship appeal. Gwen is also an associate professor of accounting, so she works for me. I can talk to her for you and we can have that suspension committee's decision overturned. (Don't worry, Gwen is known around Greene Hall for caving.)

For those of you who have recently ventured out into GS-land, you may have noticed that Google has been working on implementing an upgrade to that engine. No group is more excited about that than USMNEWS.NET’s reporters. While we await that, there are some additional elements of research quality in the CoB to consider.
(October 22, 2008) Carter's Mercenaries A Look at How George Carter's Politics May Ruin the Nail Administration Have no doubts about it, EFIB chairman George Carter is on a mission to bring down the new Lance Nail administration of USM's College of Business. And, with the hiring and firing and "friendraising" efforts Carter has made over the past two decades, he may indeed pull it off before it is all over. This column is Part 3 in a three-part series of opinion pieces that will attempt to explain just how Carter may pull off the coup that some in the CoB are hoping for and others are nervous about.
