FARHANG NIROOMAND, FORMER ASSOCIATE DEAN,
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS, CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF
HOUSTON AT VICTORIA
(March 10, 2008) GH Chatter Some CoB faculty are talking these days about the story that former CoB Associate Dean,
Farhang Niroomand, is a finalist for business school Dean at another university. It has been known for some time that
Niroomand is in pursuit of such a lofty position, and that he is in competition with former CoB Dean Harold Doty on
occasion.
(March 12, 2008) “Dean Niroomand” . . . Who Can Afford That? The exploits of former CoB Associate Dean, Farhang
Niroomand, are so notorious that he has his own page in the Archives at USMNEWS.NET. Most of those reports
contained there detail the frivolous use of resources that characterized much of Niroomand’s tenure as an
administrator in the business school at USM.
(April 2, 2008) CoB News, 2 April 2008 Will Niroomand Get to Lead UA – Fort Smith? Based on reports from sources,
USMNEWS.NET has learned that former CoB Associate Dean Farhang Niroomand is vying for the top spot in the
business school at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. UA – Fort Smith has an unaccredited business school, and
with just 18 faculty it offers only three majors (accounting, business administration, and marketing). The UAFS
business school’s mission statement mentions, specifically, a commitment to applied research, putting it in the
category that former USM Provost Jay Grimes wanted to see USM’s CoB reside in, as indicated by Grimes’ memo
instructing CoB administrators to eliminate basic research from the CoB’s mission.
(April 3, 2008) Why No Niroomand? by Duane Cobb I must admit that I’m puzzled as to why former CoB Associate
Dean Farhang Niroomand is not a finalist for the CoB’s opening at the top (Dean). What’s more, I hear that he did not
apply, which is even more puzzling to me. One would think that after his “successful solidification” of USM’s new
College of Business just two short years ago, his candidacy would be damn near unstoppable.
(April 3, 2008) GH Chatter Here’s one for the Wow!-mometer: It is being reported that associate professor of
economics, Sami Dakhlia, has remarked on more than one occasion that anyone who publishes in outlets as
atrociously bad as those that professor of economics, Farhang Niroomand, often publishes in should be summarily
fired. Sweeeeet! Of course, there isn’t a lot of concurrence around Greene Hall with Dakhlia’s opinion, given the low
quality of so much on the CoB’s publication list.
