(October 8, 2007) CoB Power Line A Look at Who Holds the Reigns of Power in the CoB by Duane Cobb The CoB has
devolved into such an academic banana republic of sorts that it is probably useful to take stock, from time to time, of
just who holds the most political power there. Without question political power in the CoB waxes and wanes, just as it
does in any of the typical unstable, tin pot hot spots around the globe. That's what updates are for.
(October 22, 2007) Breaking News And They're Off HATTIESBURG – Sources tell USMNEWS.NET reporters that a
number of CoB faculty appear to have taken the week of 10/15 – 10/19 (the week of Fall Break 2007) off. One of these
appears to be Sami Dakhlia, an assistant professor of economics who joined the CoB in August of 2007 (14 months
ago). The possibility of Dakhlia being away from the CoB during the week of Fall Break 2007 is made more
interesting by reports that he (Dakhlia) spent all of the week of Fall Break 2006 teaching a course in France.
(October 22, 2007) Ethics Update, October 2007 There are a number of interesting stories on the ethics front in the
CoB to update USMNEWS.NET readers on. Let’s get started.
(November 5, 2007) CoB News, 5 November 2007 How Many Trees Must Die? Over and over and over. That's how
much CoB faculty and the rest of the world have to hear about EFIB economist Farhang Niroomand's federal grant,
"From Local to Global." Once again Niroomand's grant activity is "news," as reported on page 6 of the October 2007
issue of The Eagle's Eye. According to the News[letter] for the Southern Miss Community, Niroomand held "a series
of five workshops last spring designed to equip businesses with the skills to expand their products and services into
the global marketplace."
(November 6, 2007) Breaking News Problem Solved? HATTIESBURG – After the CoB’s AACSB Peer Review Team
departed from Greene Hall in early February of 2007, CoB faculty waited and waited and waited for official word on
the PRT’s thoughts about the CoB’s Maintenance of Accreditation efforts. After weeks and weeks, none came. The
Harold Doty – Farhang Niroomand Administration remaind noticeably silent on the issue. The only word to reach
CoB faculty seemed to come only from Barry Babin, the former chair of the management and marketing department.
Babin told various faculty that the PRT found minor issues, such as there not being any place for CoB-Gulf Coast
students to eat at the GC campus following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, that warranted a so-called “6th Year
Review.
