(July 5, 2007) 31st & Pearl Do You Want to Hear that You Got Me Fired? During a heated exchange after the conclusion of the May 2007 CoB faculty meeting, the usmnews.net editor told former Associate Dean Farhang Niroomand that he (the editor) wanted to know why Niroomand resigned his post a month before. To that request Niroomand responded with the question that also poses as the title of this column. Perhaps it’s telling that, in response to a request to state why he resigned, Niroomand responded with his own question about getting fired.de.
(July 29, 2007) Split the Baby? Not so Fast! The past two years, and two CoB administrations, offer an interesting comparison of administrative salaries. Take a look at the following data: Academic Year Administration Salaries 2007-08 Williams-Peyrefitte $291,850 2006-07 Doty-Niroomand $296,862 The combined salaries of Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams and Interim CoB Associate Dean Joseph Peyrefitte fall within 1.7 percent of the combined compensation of their predecessors, former CoB Dean Harold Doty and former CoB Associate Dean Farhang Niroomand. However, when it comes to pay that is where the similarity ends for these two administrations.
(August 3, 2007) The Per$ianization of the 2007 Merit Rai$e Proce$$ The results of the 2007 merit raise process have been released, and the data show that former CoB Associate Dean and professor of economics Farhang Niroomand, and associate professor of economics Akbar Marvasti, both natives of Iran, were big winners. The two garnered about $14,000 in raise monies out of a single A-level journal publication combined. Meanwhile, a number of CoB faculty with multiple A-level publications over the 2004-present raise window (e.g., Talai Osmonbekov, etc.) received insulting raises, ranging from just over $1,000 to about $4,500.

(August 9, 2007) 31st & Pearl Caveat Emptor to the ODE Folks We just heard the news that the Gunthers handed over the keys to the ODE to former CoB Associate Dean Farhang Niroomand. Former Dean William Gunther must really have an axe to grind when it comes to the ODE. Why else would he turn it over to Niroomand? But, this is not about another thing Gunther has messed up. Nope, this onefs for the folks at ODE. Two things to watch out for from Niroomand over the next few years of his service to you as your Executive Secretary]Treasurer.
