FARHANG NIROOMAND, FORMER ASSOCIATE DEAN,
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS, CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF
HOUSTON AT VICTORIA
(January 25, 2007) Niroomand’s Nemesis The CoB’s Center for Financial Services One of the most interesting aspects of
the CoB’s organizational structure since the turn of the 21st Century is the evolving relationship between CoB Associate
Dean Farhang Niroomand and the CoB’s Center for Financial Services (CFS). One would think that this particular
relationship would be harmonious and productive, given that Niroomand is an economist. However, this particular
relationship has been one of the most acrimonious in the CoB over the past several years. Thanks to assistance from
USMPRIDE.COM sources, this report delves into the history of this tumultuous relationship.
(February 12, 2007) Nostalgia Series: Farhang Farhang Niroomand, Associate Dean of the CoB, former Chairman of the
Economics Department, and former power broker and player inside the CoB. Farhang controlled the money for
everything: raises, travel, data purchases, or anything else a faculty member’s heart may desire. He also controlled tenure
and promotion votes, election results, teaching loads and assignments, and even office selection. Dr. Niroomand never let
anyone forget about any of these things.
(March 6, 2007) “Without Proper Citation” A Report on the Doty Administration’s Actions in the Days after the AACSB
Plagiarism Allegations Although a number of scandals over the past several months have shaken the foundation of
Harold Doty’s administration of USM’s College of Business, none have provided as much intrigue as the scandal
regarding the allegations that the CoB copied, “without proper citation,” AACSB definitions (for “participating and
supporting faculty”) from another institution. After breaking the story in November of 2006, USMNEWS.NET has
obtained a batch of official documents that show what appears to be an attempted cover-up, one that fails to heed the
ageless political advice that the cover-up is often worse than the incident in question. However, in this case both the
alleged incident and the apparent cover-up are particularly egregious. This report recounts, using official documents, the
details of both.
