NAMED PROFESSORSHIPS
(September 21, 2008 ) 31st & Pearl Kaetsu Kronies The choice of current interim chair of management and marketing,
David Duhon, to hold the Kaetsu Distinguished Professorship in International Business was pretty much the last
straw for those who were holding on to the hope that CoB cronyism was breathing its last breath. The choice of
Duhon, the management prof who needed a so-called "letter of agreement" to reach full professor status in the CoB,
marked the second straight time that the Kaetsu was held by a sitting administrator.
(September 24, 2008) Perks for Buds XVI Musical Professorships – Accounting The Morgan Professorship was
established to provide additional financial rewards for accounting research. In reality, the Morgan Professorship has
been a rotational toy passed around – as one sage observer opined – like the town whore. There is no “earning” it.
There is no “competition” for it. It is a keep breathing in-and-out and wait your turn trophy. No more penetrating proof
is required than the current holder, Roderick Posey; he proclaims ‘over one hundred” publications, but no one can
seem to find more than a few. The apparent only factor in Posey’s possession of the Morgan Professorship is his
historic loyal behavior.
(October 17, 2008) 10 Weeks An Update to the 2009 Louis K. Brandt Predictions Our August-08 article entitled Making
a Move revisited the race in the CoB for the 2009 Louis K. Brandt Research Award. That article detailed the major
jump made by CoB economist Trellis Green, a veteran of the EFIB who moved into the Top 5 on the basis of two
separate A-level journal publications. Green’s jump came at the same time as that of a few others (e.g., Ernest King),
though nothing significant enough occurred to dislodge MIS’ Fujun Lai from the top spot in the poll.
(December 1, 2008) CoB News, 1 December 2008 Closing in on the Brandt The eligibility period for the CoB's Louis K.
Brandt Faculty Research Award is coming to a close. As such, USMNEWS.net will soon be providing a report showing
the current projected standings with 30 days left in the contest. As reported previously, associate professor of
management information systems Fujun Lai is the clear leader at this point. In fact, Lai's record is so impressive that it
is difficult to imagine a scenario in which Lai is overtaken.
