LANCE NAIL, DEAN
(October 14, 2008) Professionalism Dean Lance Nail said at his faculty meeting that “the College of Business is open for
business.” The specific reference was aimed at departments not shutting their doors between 12:00 and 1:00 for lunch;
lunches should be staggered and staff and administrators should cover the offices so they are open at least 8:00 to 5:00.
That is, for the most part, being done.
(October 16, 2008) CoB News, 16 October 2008 “Nail’s Days” – An Editorial by Duane Cobb Like many of you, I want to
be hopeful about the new Lance Nail administration of the CoB. But, also like many of you, I was hopeful about the
administration of former interim dean Alvin Williams. Look where that got us. Let’s be clear – I don’t think we will ever
put Nail anywhere near the category we might put Williams. But, with every day that Nail has department chairs like
George Carter (EFIB), David Duhon (MGT & MKT) and Steven Jackson (ACC), another day is lost to reform and
progress. Pretty soon we’ll be months into this administration, and with the same good ol’ boy network standing in the
way. There is so much good work to be done isn’t it time that work begins?
(October 24, 2008) GH Chatter Is new CoB dean Lance Nail already searching for b-school dean.s job #2? There have
been conversations to that effect, and academia is, in many ways, a small world. How strange would this be? If true, it
would probably be a good hint about USM president Martha Saunders. management style.
(November 1, 2008) BREAKING NEWS New Nail CoB HATTIESBURG -- Halloween 2008 was indeed a very big day in
the life of USM's College of Business. During a CoB-wide faculty meeting, new CoB dean Lance Nail presented a major
