PATRICIA MUNN, INSTRUCTOR OF ACCOUNTANCY
(September 28, 2007) 31st & Pearl Accounting Students Beware One of the highlights of
the 31 August 2007 CoB faculty convocation was the attempt by Patty Munn (instructor
of accounting), Gwen Pate (associate professor of accounting) and George Carter
(professor of economics) to convince the rest of the CoB's faculty that they, the CoB
faculty, are within their rights to deny their students the opportunity to drop a course
after passing the mid-semester official drop date.
(October 17, 2007) Breaking News Is the CoB Tail Wagging the CoB Dog? HATTIESBURG – The recent series of stories
about the mobbing of USMNEWS.NET editor Marc DePree by various officials in the central administration and College of
Business at USM has sparked a great deal of interest with USMNEWS.NET readers. To add to that series, USMNEWS.NET
reporters have obtained a copy of a so-called "mobbing letter" written by CoB accounting instructor Patricia Munn. Munn's
letter of 20-Aug-07, shown below, is written to SAIS Director Steven Jackson, and calls for Jackson to terminate the
employment of DePree.
(June 20, 2008) CoB News, 20 June 2008 "The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round" Although the testimony above
generally speaks for itself, it's always interesting when USMNEWS.NET's Duane Cobb gives us his take on things.
Commentary from Duane Cobb Legal counsel asked Munn: ". . . where did you get your college education?" In answering
that, Munn revealed she had a bachelor's degree from Mississippi College and bachelor's and master's degrees from USM.
A few questions and answers later we find out that the bachelor's degree from USM was complete fiction. Lawyers are
trained to ferret out these bread-and-butter sorts of things, which is what legal counsel did in this case. However, many
lines later legal counsel tells Munn that she has a master's degree from the University of South Carolina, which Munn then
admits to earning in her "first . . . life." Clearly, this legal counsel took a course, or courses, in breaking down the testimony
of witnesses who believe in reincarnation. Now that's special.
(June 20, 2008) GH Chatter CoB faculty have been talking about the so-called "resignations" of former CoB Dean Harold
Doty, and Doty's Associate Dean Farhang Niroomand, since the day they occurred (9-April-07). The subject came up again
recently, when accounting instructor Patty Munn was asked about it by legal counsel during a deposition in a United States
District Court case.
(September 11, 2008) Help a Guy Out 10 Retirements that Would Make the CoB Better and Nail’s Job Easier by Duane
Cobb To hear some tell it, by accepting Martha Saunders’ invitation to govern the CoB, new dean Lance Nail has walked
into a snake pit-like situation. Though the problems in USM’s business school are both vast and deep, they are not
insurmountable. However, Nail’s job would be made a lot easier if a number of CoB faculty who are thought to be in the
“retirement window” would sign the necessary PERS acceptance papers and exit stage left. This essay lists the top 10 CoB
faculty fitting this description. It provides some narrative as to why these ten were both chosen and ordered as they are
here.
