(June 6, 2007) 31st & Pearl Academic Fraud Abounds in the CoB Recent articles regarding the Accounting faculty at USM have highlighted a decades-old issue: Academic Fraud. In fact, issues related to Academic Fraud have been one of the key points in usmnews.net's (and, previously, usmpride.com's) investigative reports over the past year. Sami Dakhlia, Harold Doty, and others may claim that usmnews.net's reports are "lies," "mischaracterizations," or "misinformation," but such claims only underscore the lack of honesty with which these individuals operate.

(June 6, 2007) CoB News, 6 June 2007 There are a number of interesting news items to report from the CoB to start off the summer of 2007. A few of these are detailed below.
(June 6, 2007) Two More Out the Door A Look at the Departures of Madaris and Lewis The recent breaking news story about the impending departures of finance instructor Michael Madaris and SAIS Director and MIS professor Stanley Lewis has been verified. The two are heading off, Madaris to William Carey University, and Lewis to Troy University. While we wait for USMNEWS staffers to update the CoB departures (since 2003) list, we have put together an update of the brain drain list that has been building since the CoB’s AACSB Peer Review Team left town. In the last installment, we reported on the loss of Stephen and Dana Haggard, assistant professors in finance and management, respectively. These two are headed west, to Missouri State University. With these departures, the number of refereed journal articles that have left the CoB since Feb-07 rose to 90.
(June 8, 2007) Breaking News Tourism Management to Assist Marketing; Hallab Leaving CoB HATTIESBURG – Staffers at USMNEWS.NET have received word that, with the shortfall in marketing faculty for the 2007-08 academic year, faculty in the CoB’s Tourism Management Department will be allowing marketing students to substitute TM courses for courses that would otherwise have been offered through Management & Marketing. Over the past several months a number of marketing faculty have announced their resignations from the CoB, including Barry Babin (Professor & Chair), Laurie Babin (Professor) and Tara Lopez (Assistant Professor). These three are going to Louisiana Tech, Louisiana – Monroe, and Southeastern Louisiana, respectively. Their departures, along with Alvin Williams’ move into the Interim Dean position and Tony Henthorne’s move to chair both MGTMKT and TM, mean that the H-BURG marketing group consists of only Dolly Loyd, Talai Osmonbekov, Bill Smith, and Michael Wittmann. No source we spoke with about this situation can recall the marketing group being as depleted as it is now.
(June 11, 2007) Madaris Statement ... Dr. Madaris’ request – that the preceding statement be published – highlights an interesting quirk of human nature: that presentation of information matters greatly to some and not at all to others. USMNews.net previously reported that Madaris was a “loss” to the CoB, since he accepted a full-time position at William Carey University. In the original USMNews.net reports, no mention was made of Presbyterian Christian School or Madaris’ employment or connection with that institution.
