(October 27, 2008) GH Chatter The appointment of Aubrey K. Lucas as interim commissioner of the IHL is a hot topic in USM's b-school. Lucas, the former president of USM, is known by many as EFIB chair George Carter's mentor. As such, a Lucas appointment could be a major setback for the newly-appointed Lance Nail administration of the CoB.

(October 27, 2008) Lucas Ascends to Position Once Held by Carter Former USM president, Aubrey K. Lucas, was recently appointed to the post of Interim Commissioner of Higher Education, a move that fills the void created after the resignation of former IHL Commissioner Thomas Meredith.
(October 30, 2008) CoB News, 30 October 2008 “Significant Contributor” to CoB Lauded In Jim Coll’s 29-October-08 presser entitled “Southern Miss Alumni Association to Induct Seven Into Hall of Fame” USM officials announced that Bruce Rossmeyer, “a significant contributor to the College of Business,” will be inducted into the USM Alumni Hall of Fame on 31-October-08 during a ceremony at Southern Oaks House and Gardens in Hattiesburg. Rossmeyer is one of seven inductees who will join the Hall of Fame, bringing the Hall’s total membership to 221.

A Look at the Disposition of CoB Faculty under the Reorganization Plan The recent BREAKING NEWS stories about the failed secret attempt to move the CoB's economists over to the College of Arts & Letters, new dean Lance Nail's major reorganization of the CoB, and the selection of Gwen Pate and Kenneth Zantow as new assistant deans have CoBers and other readers of USMNEWS.net buzzing. This essay expands on the second recent BREAKING NEWS story above by examining the faculty rosters of each of the six new CoB departments in Nail's reorganization plan. These are (1) accounting, (2) business administration, economics and information systems, (3) finance, real estate and legal studies, (4) management and international business, (5) marketing and fashion merchandising and (6) tourism management. The faculty rosters for these new departments are found below, and each contains faculty from the overall 2008-09 CoB roster:
(November 4, 2008) BREAKING NEWS UPDATE Plan to Move ECO Tabled, not Dead HATTIESBURG – The 3-Nov-08 BREAKING NEWS story entitled “Secret Plan to Ship ECO to CoAL Rejected” has prompted responses from USM insiders and USMNEWS.net readers alike. As a result, reporters have learned a number of new things about the plan to ship ECO to CoAL. One of these is that the original plan had two prongs, both of which were rejected by faculty in CoAL’s international affairs and political science department. One of these prongs was the merger of all of the CoB’s economists with this particular department. The second option was for members of this CoAL department to accept a subset of the CoB’s economists. Despite having the support of new CoAL dean Denise von Herrmann, both options failed by a vote of CoAL’s international affairs and political science faculty.
