(March 31, 2008) Breaking News Seven-Year Itch; Pitman Wants to Leave SUNY for USM HATTIESBURG . Glenn
Pitman, professor of marketing at SUNY -- Binghamton, has been named the third finalist for the CoB's top position.
Pitman was himself the business school Dean at Binghamton until 2001, so it appears as though the proverbial
seven-year itch has set in.
(April 2, 2008) 31st & Pearl It's in the Character, not in the Schooling The recent Breaking News story (SevenYear Itch)
that indicated that a coalition of CoB faculty is already emerging, even before the final visitor, Glenn Pitman, arrives on
campus for an interview, is quite intriguing. Not only does my own source confirm that such a coalition is developing, I
am also told that members of the coalition are using the argument that Arnold's educational background, with an UG
degree in accounting, a master's degree specialized in finance, and a PhD in marketing, will work to insulate the CoB
from the kind of parochial leadership seen by CoB faculty under the administrations of William Gunther and Harold
Doty.
(May 2, 2008) CoB News, 2 May 2008 Is ChevronTexaco Funding Division Between CoB-H – CoB-GC? Charmaine
Williams’ 1-May-08 presser entitled “Southern Miss College of Business Awards Outstanding Gulf Coast Students for
2007-08” indicates that, at a luncheon at Salute Italian Restaurant on 26-April-08, Gulf Coast CoB students were
presented awards that were sponsored by “local businesses and industries.” According to Williams, this annual
awards luncheon is named, going by the title ChevronTexaco Excellence in Business Awards Luncheon, wherein only
CoB-GC students are eligible to receive awards.
(May 9, 2008 ) CoB News, 9 May 2008 Father Tommy Kicked to the Curb According to the Jason Munz report in the
8-May-08 The Hattiesburg American entitled “Conway no longer chaplain,” Father Tommy Conway, team chaplain for
USM’s football team since 2003, has been relieved of these duties by new USM head football coach, Larry Fedora.
According to Conway, the news came around 24-April-08, when Fedora informed Conway that he (Fedora) “wanted to
go in a different direction.” According to Munz, USM Athletics Director, Richard Giannini, did not want to comment on
the matter.
(May 27, 2008 ) Reader's Response: CoB Reorganization Many CoB faculty expect new dean, Lance Nail, to complete a
reorganization of the college during his first few months on the job. In that spirit, a USMNEWS.NET reader has sent in
an interesting reorganization plan for the CoB:
