(November 19, 2007) Now Hiring A Brief Look at Faculty Turnover in USM's College of Business The 2007-08 academic year is not even halfway through and CoB faculty are already wondering what kind of faculty turnover the CoB will see this year. Interim Dean Alvin Williams has already announced his resignation, effective June of 2008. Who will be the next to do so?
(November 27, 2007) Breaking News A “Bring ‘Em All Home” Meltdown HATTIESBURG – A faction of faculty in the CoB’s Department of Management & Marketing that includes management professors Stephen Bushardt and David Duhon is telling anyone and everyone who will listen about its displeasure with the department’s decision not to offer Kirk Ring a tenure-track position in the department. As reported earlier, Ring is currently a PhD student at Mississippi State University who also holds a business degree from USM’s College of Business
(November 27, 2007) Just How Bad is the CoB’s New Dean Applicant Pool? Little has been said publicly about the 2007-08 search for a new Dean of USM’s College of Business until now. However, with the release of the e-mail inserted below, we now have some indication that the search process may be sputtering. The e-mail below was sent to all CoB faculty by Peter Fos, Dean of USM’s College of Health and Chairman of the CoB’s Dean Search Committee.
(November 29, 2007) Which “B” Will it Be? More on the CoB’s Human Resource Carousel Though the fights over preferred candidates in management and marketing are getting heated, there’s no escaping the fact that since 2003, management and marketing, like every other group in the CoB, is riding a human resource carousel as a result of bad management of the College. Now we are awaiting the results of the hiring race between two additional candidates for management positions at USM. These are Bret Becton, currently a faculty member at Winthrop University, and Jacob Breland, a PhD student at Ole Miss in Oxford.
(November 30, 2007) Special Report Is the CoB it’s Own Little World? A Look at the Results of the Faculty Welfare Survey from Fall ‘07 At the beginning of fall semester 2007, USM faculty completed a “faculty welfare survey” that was sponsored by USM’s Faculty Senate. These surveys were filled out by CoB faculty at their respective Aug/Sept-07 departmental meetings. Recently, the FS’s Faculty Welfare Committee released the results of these surveys in a format that shows a college-by-college ranking of “faculty concerns” that are based on the information obtained from the surveys. USM faculty addressed six areas of potential concern through that fall 2007 survey.
(November 30, 2007) Dear USMNEWS The e-mail from health dean P. Fos is interesting to say the least. I am not surprised to hear that the dean pool is not good, and no one else likely is either. The COB is not a place that would attract any sort of quality applicants for dean after what it has been through under Doty. Now that Jeff Bower has been fired it looks like the whole university is going to look like the COB in a short while. It's terrible.
