(October 31, 2007)(corrections) Wrong Tiers The Real Problem with "Bring 'Em all Home" The recent release of reports on the CoB's recent dash to hire more and more faculty who hold degrees from USM continues to draw interest from readers. Some have suggested that we concentrate only on those faculty with USM degrees who hold doctorates and serve in a capacity beyond that of instructor. One reader even provided an analysis that does so. It supports our larger point -- that the CoB's USM degree-holders are not a real part of any group (i.e., top 10 or top 20) that makes up the top researchers in the CoB.

A Look at What Some of the “Doty Era Losses” are Now Doing As long-time readers are aware, usmnews.net not only reports on faculty departures as they happen, we also provide updates to the list of faculty departures since 2003, or the year that former Dean D. (November 2, 2007) Breaking News Hill Says No HATTIESBURG – Sources now tell USMNEWS.NET reporters that one of the four FIN job market finalists, Matthew Hill of the University of Arkansas -- Ft. Smith, his turned down the EFIB's offer of a campus interview. Sources say that Hill has accepted a job offer with the University of Mississippi, a move that easily takes Hill higher up on the "academic food chain." According to reports, the EFIB is now set to hold an emergency meeting to consider extending a job offer to Kimberly Goodwin, a PhD student at the University of Alabama. According to USMNEWS.NET sources, Hill easily had the superior vitae among the three junior faculty applicants. Unlike Goodwin and Andrew Fodor, Hill is AACSB-AQ by portfolio, having published three articles (including an "A") in his first year out (from PhD receipt).
(November 5, 2007) Job Search Update, 5-Nov-07 There are a few new developments to report on concerning the CoB's 2007-08 job searches. First, accounting is bringing in a number of finalists, starting this week, in their efforts to fill two or more positions in the SAIS. These candidates are being brought in to fill (presumably) vacancies created by the impending retirement of associate professor Marvin Albin and the recent retirement of professor James Crockett. Both of these accountants have been the subjects of numerous reports here at www.usmnews.net.
(November 14, 2007) Dear USM News, I know that your readers are probably most interested in the resignation of Alvin Williams right now, but I wanted to write to let you know that some faculty in the college have been discussing the dire situation regarding the lack of student progress in managerial statistics. Things have gotten worse not better since we first got numbers on how poorly our students are performing in statistics. It's time that the college removes statistics from the economics department and house it with the various disciplines.
