HATTIESBURG – Another of Management & Marketing’s many tenure-track openings is being sought by Morgan Miles, a professor of marketing at Georgia Southern University. And, like so many others, Miles (shown below) seeks to return home by landing a tenure-track position in USM’s CoB.

(October 30, 2007) Breaking News Is Hill Coming Home? HATTIESBURG – Sources tell USMNEWS.NET reporters that one of the EFIB’s 2007-08 job candidate finalists, Matthew Hill, may be offered a chance to return home. Hill, currently on faculty at the University of Arkansas – Ft. Smith, has been selected as one of four finalists for a tenure-track faculty position in finance. Like so many other 2007-08 CoB job market finalists, Hill holds a Ph.D. in business from Mississippi State University in Starkville. In all, four of the nine (or 44.4 percent) job market finalists that the CoB has brought (or, so far, will bring) to Greene Hall during the 2007-08 hiring season have doctorate degrees from Mississippi State.

There’s no place like home The Prevalence of USM Degrees among the CoB’s Faculty, 2007-08 The combination of the CoB’s tumultuous turnover since 2003 and the Williams-Peyrefitte administration’s penchant for hiring USM graduates has former Golden Eagles everywhere clicking their heels at the hopes of returning to the CoB as faculty (visiting, or otherwise). As sources told USMNEWS.NET, it was Williams who encouraged future Golden Eagles in attendance at the CoB’s Spring 2007 Awards Banquet to go off, get a PhD, and come back to the CoB “and help us out.”

There's More Additional Analysis of Our Reader's Comments on the CoB’s USM Degree-Holders Recent reports at USMNEWS.NET that are based on a reader's suggestion that USM degree-holders are more likely to also hold doctorates from Tier III and Tier IV colleges and universities continues to draw interest from other readers and our reporters. To continue our examination of this phenomenon, reporters compiled the list of 2007-08 job candidate finalists that have either already visited the CoB for their on-campus interviews or are planning a visit to the CoB in the near future. There are nine individuals in this group thus far, and each has applied for various job openings in finance, management and/or marketing.
