(October 15, 2007) How will the "Alexander Plan" Affect the CoB? According to Zoe Beckham's 11-Oct-07 Student Printz article entitled "Senator helps transfers keep grades," SGA Senator Kent Alexander drafted a bill that would allow Junior College (JUCO) and other transfers to USM to keep the overall GPAs they earned at other institutions before transferring to USM.1 The status quo policy is for a transfer student's overall GPA at their previous institution to be cleared upon arrival at USM. As such, transfer students begin with a 0.00 GPA (with zero hours attempted, though appropriate completed coursework is transferred) upon arrival at USM.
(October 22, 2007) CoB News, 22 October 2007 Aust Visits CoB . . . Faculty on "Vacation" The 2007-08 CoB Distinguished Alumnus, Bruce Aust (pictured below), the Executive Vice President of the Corporate Client Group of the NASDAQ, visited Joseph Greene Hall 303 on Friday afternoon, 19 October 2007. As USMNEWS.NET has reported, that day (19-Oct) marked the second day of USM's fall break of 2007, and many CoB faculty were away on various activities. Still, Aust's talk to CoB faculty was scheduled during this period.
(October 24, 2007) Breaking News Is Ring Coming Home? HATTIESBURG – Among the candidates to visit the CoB in their quest to land one of the many tenure-track faculty positions is USM's own Kirk Ring, who is interviewing throughout Greene Hall on 24-Oct-07. Ring (shown below), a graduate of USM's CoB, is currently a doctoral student in business administration at Mississippi State University.
(October 24, 2007) Breaking News JCJC to Offer Bachelor's Degrees -- HATTIESBURG -- The title you see above is The Hattiesburg American headline that south Mississippi residents awoke to on the morning of 24-October-07. In his article entitled "JCJC to offer bachelor's degrees," THA higher education issues reporter David McRaney informed Mississippi citizens that "officals at Jones County Junior College [in Ellisville, MS] announced [on 23-Oct-07] the two-year college will offer four-year bachelor's degrees in more than a dozen categories through an alliance with Ohio's Franklin University."
(October 24, 2007) Breaking News Glascoff Now Wants Tenure-Track Job HATTIESBURG---Reporters at USMNEWS.NET have learned that the CoB's visiting professor of marketing, David Glascoff, is now a finalist for one of the many tenure-track positions in the CoB's management and marketing department. Glascoff's on-campus interview falls on 25-October-2007.
(October 25, 2007) Breaking News Goodwin Coming Back to Hattiesburg HATTIESBURG – Reporters at USMNEWS.NET have learned that the CoB’s finance faculty have invited Kimberly Goodwin for an on-campus job interview. That visit is slated for 26-October-2007. Goodwin is currently a PhD candidate in finance at the University of Alabama. Like many of the CoB’s other tenure-track position finalists, Goodwin also holds a degree from USM’s College of Business.
