As those reports indicat, this process was led by untenured assistant professor of economics, Sami Dakhlia, who chaired the CoB's journal ranking committee during the 2007-08 academic year. This particular report examines how the EFIB favorites benefited (or not) from Dakhlia's position on the journal ranking committee. (June 20, 2008) Breaking News No Raises in 2008, Except for Nail, Dakhlia and Few Others HATTIESBURG – In a 20-June-08 update to The Hattiesburg American's webpage, THA reporter Valerie Wells has informed the USM community that very few USM faculty and staff will be receiving raises this spring. This news came via USM Public Relations official, Jana Bryant, who informed Wells that outside of the usual promotion and/or reassignment raises, no one at USM will be getting a raise in 2008. This result may come as a surprise to many, given that USM President Martha Saunders has informed the USM community in one forum or another that she and her staff were combing the University's budget, hoping to find areas to carve out for merit and/or cost-of-living raises for all faculty and staff. According to Wells' report, Saunders failed in that quest, and there will not be any general raises after her (Saunders') first year in office.
(August 5, 2008)(updated November 19, 2008) "Happy day, Dean Nail. I am going to need $2,200 out of your budget." On 11-April-2007, USMNEWS.net posted a report on CoB economist Daniel Monchuk's 23-page publication in the Spring 2007 issue of the Review of Agricultural Economics. As that report, What Does a 'C-Publication' Cost These Days?, indicated, Monchuk's publication in the RAE, which was at that time an unlisted journal in the CoB's journal classification system, hit the CoB up for $2,185. This high price tag came as a result of the RAE''s $95/page publication fee.
(September 10, 2008)“And the Yankees Trade Jay Buhner for Seattle’s Ken Phelps” A LOOK BACK AT BAD TRADES IN COB HISTORY Mention of the July 1988 trade between the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners, like in the title of this new series above, is enough to send many New Yorkers over the edge. At the time of the trade, Phelps was in the autumn of his career while Buhner was a rising young star. Though the various CoB “constituencies” are not usually sent over the edge by much of anything, there have been similarly bad trades in the history of USM’s College of Business. This new series takes a look at some of those.
