DR. MELODY LO, FORMER ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF
ECONOMICS
(September 17, 2006) Doty’s Shameful Treatment of Dr. Lo Assertions made at USMpride.com indicate that Doty and his
team of administrators merely neglected to properly reward one of the CoB’s most productive junior faculty members,
former Assistant Professor of Economics Melody Lo. Lo departed USM in May for a similar position at the University of
Texas-San Antonio and a rumored 40% pay hike.
(July 29, 2006) Gender and Salaries in USM’s College of Business, 2003-Present As reported in other links on this website,
CoB Dean Harold Doty isolated 10% of the College’s allocation of 2006 raise money in order to provide market adjustment
raises for all CoB faculty earning below 80% of the relevant AACSB median salary.
(August 11, 2009) Long Since Looking Back at Brain Drain Hits Recent reports here at USMNEWS.net have highlighted
some of the specifics of the $11-$12 million budget cuts being carried out now by the USM central administration.
Preliminary reports like these place 5 tenured and 4 tenure-track faculty terminations in USM's CoB, with all of these
coming via the termination of economics faculty through elimination of the CoB's economics programs.
(August 16, 2006) Quotable Doty 1st Edition: Doty on Economic Education The PR Release focuses on three USM faculty
members, Melody Lo, Sunny Wong, and Frank Mixon. Of these three individuals only one (Mixon, Professor of
Economics) remains at USM. Former Assistant Professors Lo (recipient of the infamous “shame on you” comment) and
Wong departed USM following the 2005-2006 academic year for (respectively) the University of Texas at San Antonio and
the University of San Francisco, earning substantial pay increases.
(September 24, 2009) CoB News, 24 September 2009 Shame on U, SM! When former CoB economist Melody Lo delivered
her resignation to the CoB during the 2005-06 academic year, she was greeted by then-dean Harold Doty with the now
infamous "Shame on you, Melody!" That bit of shame reflected on Doty (and on USM as well), not on Lo.
