(July 3, 2008) "Dr. Lai . . . Come on Down!" From Once Secret Vitae to 2009 Louis K. Brandt Predictions Our recent series on the 2009 Louis K. Brandt Faculty Research Award has drawn significant interest among readers. The results of that series' predictions were even discussed by assistant professor of accounting, Mary Anderson, in a recent federal court deposition. Given that former interim CoB dean, Alvin Williams, had CoB faculty vitae uploaded to USM.edu just before departing for the University of South Alabama, USMNEWS.net reporters decided to re-run the analysis using these public CoB faculty research records (2007-08) in order to provide alternative predictions on the LKBRA.
(July 22, 2008 ) Special Report Changing of the Guard in MIS? An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research Credentials The race for "the greatest ever" in the CoB's management information systems unit is arguably the most interesting. Reporters had no idea what would be uncovered once this particular installment began. For what we found, continue on. It is almost certain to surprise most readers of USMNEWS.net, and possibly even some past and present members of the CoB's MIS unit. Of course, the only logical place to begin is with MIS professor Chang-Tseh Hsieh, the current McCarty Distinguished Professor of Management Information Systems.
(August 21, 2008) CoB News, 21 August 2008 Only Shenanigans can Stop Him The recent USMNEWS.net piece, "Dr. Lai . . . come on down!" showed how MIS prof, Fujun Lai, is a rising star among CoB ranks. In fact, that essay virtually handed the CoB’s 2009 Louis K. Brandt Research Award to Lai, who has already published in a premier MIS journal. At this point, only shenanigans of one sort or other seem capable of derailing Lai.
(October 16, 2008) Still Going? A Look at New Journal Publications in the CoB There is little argument with the notion that much of the CoB's former research talent departed since former CoB dean Harold Doty took the reins of the organization back in July of 2003. At this point, with the arrival of new CoB dean Lance Nail, the CoB is barely hanging on when it comes to the research front. One problem Nail seems to be running into now is that many of the CoB's faculty vacancies -- and there have been many in the past few years -- were filled by the outgoing administration of former interim CoB dean Alvin Williams. As a number of reports here at USMNEWS.net have indicated, some of these late hires under Williams were questionable at best.
