(December 28, 2007) 2007 Christmas Gifts Tony Henthorne The newly appointed chair of MGT & MKT capped off a productive year by having his new office suite inch closer to completion. A new, wooden credenza and desk were delivered to the suite over Christmas vacation. Henthorne also reveled in the news that his efforts were instrumental in the CoB's receipt of accreditation by the AACSB.
(February 10, 2008) And then who? Tony Henthorne, current Chair of about half of the CoB, is making it clear to anyone who will listen that he does not want to be Chair of MKT/MGT/FM next year. He received no extra money for this job, he claims, and did it as a favor for Interim Dean Williams (as speculated here previously). Given the rocky year at the helm, it is no wonder he seeks the relative solitude of only Tourism Management. It is time to enjoy the fine new suite the CoB provided for him. Before moving on to the proposed post-Henthorne year(s), let’s recap some of the low-lights of the year for Dr. Henthorne:
(February 10, 2008) CoB News, 11 February 2008 Is George Here to Stay? With Janis May's 7-Feb-08 press release entitled "Southern Miss Professors Take on Editorship of International Tourism Journal," it looks like visiting assistant professor
of tourism management, Babu George, may have found a permanent home in USM's College of Business. May's presser, inserted below, indicates that George will hold the "Managing Editor" title for the Journal of Tourism, a periodical that will be co-published by USM's CoB and Garhwal University (India).
(February 19, 2008) Breaking News Henthorne Leaves CoB to Lead Tourism Department at UNLV HATTIESBURG – Reporters at USMNEWS.NET have learned that Interim Chair of MGT & MKT and Chair of Tourism Management, Tony Henthorne, will be departing USM at the close of 2007-08 in order to take on the role of Chair of the Tourism & Convention Department at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas. Not only does UNLV reside in one of the world’s premier tourism destinations, Henthorne’s future academic home is part of the larger William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at UNLV.

(February 20, 2008) Breaking News Marketing Faculty Ranks Devastated, Yet Set to Expand Programs LONG BEACH – USM’s College of Business is rapidly becoming the surreal. The recent departure announcements of marketing faculty Tony Henthorne, to UNLV, and Talai Osmonbekov, to Northern Arizona University, have devastated the CoB’s marketing faculty ranks in both scholarly value (reach) and teaching services. The combined journal publications list from Henthorne and Osmonbekov is both long and peppered with quality outlets, from the Journal of Advertising to the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, with others in between. With these departures, the only non-administrative, tenure-track faculty in marketing at the CoB’s Hattiesburg campus are assistant professors William Smith and Michael Wittmann, and neither of these faculty has produced an A-level publication.
