DR. JAMES HENDERSON, FORMER ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF
ACCOUNTING, FORMER VICE PRESIDENT FOR FINANCIAL AFFAIRS
(October 14, 2008) Dear USM News, The reports on Jim Henderson's comings and goings have been very interesting
to many of us on the outside. I always felt that he was and is one of the main characters that presents USM faculty
with such a problem getting along outside the walls of campus. Closing that chapter should relieve some of the
outside pressure.
(October 19, 2008) Special Report "Gappy" An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research Credentials This
installment in the Special Report series makes use of two of EFIB chairman George Carter's famous phrases. These
are "gappy" and "in print." The first is often used by Carter in describing holes in a particular faculty member's
publication record. The second is increasingly used by Carter to let young, untenured faculty understand that only
journal articles that have actually been published by a journal, not those that are "in press" or "forthcoming," count
toward tenure and promotion.
(October 22, 2008) Carter's Mercenaries A Look at How George Carter's Politics May Ruin the Nail Administration
Have no doubts about it, EFIB chairman George Carter is on a mission to bring down the new Lance Nail
administration of USM's College of Business. And, with the hiring and firing and "friendraising" efforts Carter has
made over the past two decades, he may indeed pull it off before it is all over. This column is Part 3 in a three-part
series of opinion pieces that will attempt to explain just how Carter may pull off the coup that some in the CoB are
hoping for and others are nervous about.
(October 24, 2008) GH Chatter The stories about CoB accountant Jim Henderson's retirement are all over the board.
It does appear, however, that his status will change after December of 2008, and that change of status will involve
his retirement (either full or phased). Whether or not any of this resulted from the recent test proctoring scandal in
the SAIS is not yet known for sure, but some are speculating as much.
(October 28, 2008) CoB News, 28 October 2008 Just a Spoonful of Henderson Remaining As stories about associate
professor of accounting James Henderson’s imminent retirement continue to circulate, this issue of CoB News takes
a closer look at Henderson’s most recent publication – a 2006 article in the Journal of College Teaching & Learning
entitled “A Spoonful of Humor Helps the Lecture Go Down.”
(December 2, 2008) BREAKING NEWS Henderson Replacement Found . . . Anderson Flying North HATTIESBURG
– It looks as though the CoB has found a replacement for associate professor of accounting, James Henderson, the
long-time CoB faculty who is retiring this month (Dec-08). And to do so, it reportedly looked no further than CoB-GC
in finding assistant professor Mary Anderson. Sources tell USMNEWS.net that Anderson will be moving north,
from CoB-GC to CoB-H, to fill Henderson’s shoes.
