(July 6, 2008) Special Report Dormy Jim Henderson Debunks the CPA=PQ Claim In his early-July-08 U.S. District Court deposition, associate professor of accounting, James "Jim" Henderson, debunked the claim that having a CPA license distinguishes an academic accountant as "Professionally Qualified." Henderson's points, presented below, are important, given that former interim CoB dean, Alvin Williams, testified in a U.S. District Court proceeding that former associate professor of accounting, Marvin Albin, was deemed "PQ" because he (Albin) had a CPA license.
(October 8, 2008) O.B. SAIS Director Steven Jackson Responds to Jim Henderson's Absence It was only 24 hours after USMNEWS.net received the opinion piece entitled "Fore Fouls" -- a column admonishing associate professor of accounting Jim Henderson's decision to skip an exam after assigning proctoring duties to Melissa McIntyre, SAIS' administrative assistant -- before SAIS Director Steve Jackson was compelled to send a blanket e-mail to all SAIS faculty admonishing the decision himself. That e-mail, which is inserted below, was written by Jackson in true CoB administrator fashion -- that is, because Henderson has been so useful to CoB administration in recent months, the "sin" was called out, not the "sinner."
(October 9, 2008) Dear USMNEWS: As usual Dr. Jackson has missed the point of the exercise. In your piece "O.B. SAIS Director Steven Jackson Responds to Jim Henderson's Absence," Jackson's email misses the point of Henderson's "sin"; it is not just using the department's administrative assistant in that manner, Henderson and all others should not use graduate assistants (GAs) in that way either.
(October 10, 2008) GH Chatter The situation involving Jim Henderson's use of the SAIS' administrative assistant to proctor his exam in his absence gets more interesting by the day. Now, stories are circulating around Greene Hall about Henderson's imminent retirement. Some are saying that Henderson has decided to retire in December ('08), just as called for in the original editorial about his malpractice.
(October 10, 2008) Perks for Buds XIX Jim Henderson Now in the Ed Nissan Service Chair
(October 13, 2008) CoB News, 13 October 2008 “So Hendersonian” -- An Editorial by 31st & Pearl Columnist Recent editorial columns about accounting professor Jim Henderson’s exam proctoring shenanigans only add to the history of irresponsibility that has characterized Henderson’s tenure in the CoB. Now, the 19th installment of “Perks for Buds” shows that Henderson had Gwen Pate meet his responsibility to USM’s Academic Council on 8-Sept-08. One would guess that the 3:30pm meeting intruded on tee time, especially since Henderson’s teaching schedule is over before noon. Many American workers retire (in their old age) to a life of golf (mainly). Henderson’s life has been about golf, and for a long time. If news of his decision to retire in Dec-08 is indeed true, then the CoB, under new dean Lance Nail, will have a chance to breathe some new life into the accounting program. That, however, assumes there’s not another Morgan waiting in the wings.
