(May 31, 2007) More Publishing Mysteries in the SAIS What Pate and Henderson Claim, and what the (SEDONA) Records Show
Now that the spring 2007 versions of CoB faculty SEDONA vitae are circulating within the CoB, more and more "mysterious" entries are being uncovered and discussed. One of the latest concerns two refereed journal articles in the SAIS -- one claimed by associate professor of accounting Gwen Pate, and the other claimed by associate professor of accounting (and former USM VP of Finance) James Henderson.
(July 11, 2007) 31st & Pearl Black Knew Then What We Know Now So many CBA faculty thought it completely silly that, during the Ty Black administration of the college, faculty had to submit actual copies of their scholarship at annual review time. The running joke was that it was bush league, that reputable schools don't operate in that way. Well, Black knows people, at least CoB (then CBA) people, as good as or better than most. Black knew then that co-authors would mix up the citations of their work, as we saw in last year's Sedona records for Stephen Bushardt, David Duhon and Francis Daniel. Black knew then that the accountants could appear to be shifty in reporting their accomplishments.
(October 1, 2007) A College in Crisis by Duane Cobb New USM President Martha Saunders now knows what many of you have known for some time. That is, USM's College of Business is a College in crisis. And, though some in the CoB seem incapable of seeing it, the crisis goes well beyond the AACSB Maintenance of Accreditation process.
(October 5, 2007) GH Chatter, The Jim Henderson chatter from our last installment gets even more interesting. Some faculty are saying that Henderson boasted, at the 4-May-07 CoB faculty meeting, about having "bombed" more undergraduate students than any other faculty present in the meeting room (JGH 303). What is it with some faculty accounting faculty wanting to see students do bad?
(October 8, 2007) GH Chatter, Jim Henderson cancelled his first accounting exam, originally scheduled on 27-Sept-07, due to extracurricular obligations. He rescheduled the exam for 4-Oct-07, one day after the mid-term drop date at USM. Following the lead of his colleagues Gwen Pate and Patricia Munn, Henderson is not obligated to drop any students who wish to do so now, even though these students had no information before 3-Oct-07 regarding their potential grades in the course.
(October 8, 2007) Special Report Memo to Martha, Part I A Look at Alvin Williams’ Role in the Mobbing of Aug-07 Reporters at usmnews.net have received a copy of a memo sent by Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams to USM President Martha Saunders, through Interim Provost Bobby Middlebrooks, asking Saunders to terminate the employment (at USM) of USMNEWS.NET editor and accounting professor, Marc DePree. Williams’ letter is dated 21 August 2007, the same day that Saunders penned a letter to DePree advising DePree that he was being relieved of his teaching and services responsibilities to USM during the fall 2007 semester.
