(January 25, 2007) Niroomand’s Nemesis The CoB’s Center for Financial Services One of the most interesting aspects of the
CoB’s organizational structure since the turn of the 21st Century is the evolving relationship between CoB Associate Dean
Farhang Niroomand and the CoB’s Center for Financial Services (CFS). One would think that this particular relationship would
be harmonious and productive, given that Niroomand is an economist. However, this particular relationship has been one of
the most acrimonious in the CoB over the past several years. Thanks to assistance from USMPRIDE.COM sources, this report
delves into the history of this tumultuous relationship.
(February 8, 2007) Crank up the School Bells, not Carter's "Factoids" by Duane Cobb Junior faculty may have noticed the school
bells on the walls of Joseph Greene Hall. What they and others might not know, however, is that the bells were in use up until
the arrival of Bill Gunther (as CBA Dean) in the late 1990s. They rang every hour, and at 10-till the hour, on MWF. On TTh they
also followed the appropriate class schedule.
(March 9, 2007 ) Two Boondoggles are Better than One by Duane Cobb I was recently informed by usmnews.net Reporter that
the CoB's Center for Financial Services is now working to help CoB Dean Harold Doty's spouse, Susan, in her campaign to
provide economic education instruction to Mississippi educators. This new plan calls for a financial literacy effort, supported by
the CFS and its Director John Clark, that would reach students and/or educators throughout South Mississippi. As a result, two
of the CoB's centers -- the CFS and the Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) -- will be fully engaged in Susan
Doty's education initiative.
(March 9, 2007 ) Who should be in the CoB Five Days a week? As five-day teaching schedules are returning to prominence in
the CoB – once again progressing by regressing to the CoB past of about 25 years ago – it may be time to explore who is a good
candidate for more mandatory face time in the CoB.
