(February 10, 2008) CoB News, 11 February 2008 Is George Here to Stay? With
Janis May's 7-Feb-08 press release entitled "Southern Miss Professors Take on
Editorship of International Tourism Journal," it looks like visiting assistant
professorof tourism management, Babu George, may have found a permanent
home in USM's College of Business. May's presser, inserted below, indicates that
George will hold the "Managing Editor" title for the Journal of Tourism, a
periodical that will be co-published by USM's CoB and Garhwal University (India).
BABU GEORGE, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
DEPARTMENT OF CASINO, HOSPITALITY,
TOURISM MANAGEMENT
(October 6, 2008) Is Babu George on Tenure Track? A number of reports here at USMNEWS.net
have made it clear that outgoing interim CoB dean Alvin Williams and/or tourism management chair
Tony Henthorne engaged in a number of untoward activities in the waning days (in the summer of
2008) of their USM careers. As time goes by, more and more of what appear to be examples of those
are coming to light. One of these is the possible reclassification of visiting assistant professor of
tourism management Babu George, a friend and associate of Henthorne, to what appears to be a
tenure track position within the CoB.
(October 16, 2008) Still Going? A Look at New Journal Publications in the CoB There is little
argument with the notion that much of the CoB's former research talent departed since former CoB
dean Harold Doty took the reins of the organization back in July of 2003. At this point, with the
arrival of new CoB dean Lance Nail, the CoB is barely hanging on when it comes to the research
front. One problem Nail seems to be running into now is that many of the CoB's faculty vacancies --
and there have been many in the past few years -- were filled by the outgoing administration of
former interim CoB dean Alvin Williams. As a number of reports here at USMNEWS.net have
indicated, some of these late hires under Williams were questionable at best.
