(January 10, 2007) The Perfect Hire for the CoB In any organization, hiring is a difficult process. Those making
decisions want to achieve certain goals. Sometimes, organizations like colleges and universities (and their subordinate
units) want to increase their productivity, raise their profile, or achieve recognition in some manner (quality of
education, etc.).
(January 30, 2007) 31st & Pearl George Carter's 2007 SEDONA File It's easy to imagine that EFIB Chairman George
Carter will have some difficulty when it comes time to fill out his SEDONA file for the spring 2007 annual evaluation
process. He will no doubt need to enlist the assistance of Ms. Lola Ingram, the EFIB secretary. We can imagine the
questions he'll have for her. They might go something like:

Several days before the AACSB Peer Review team arrived in Mississippi to inspect the College of Business at USM, a
staff member in CoB Dean Harold Doty's office sent an e-mail to all CoB faculty asking them to consider bringing
samples of recent research (e.g., offprints, journal issues, books, etc.) to the Dean's office for inclusion in the CoB
research display case on the second floor of Joseph Greene Hall.
(February 14, 2007) Special Report It's not Only how Many, it's also how Much Time An Investigation into CoB Faculty
Tenure and Promotion Practices Recent reports have spotlighted the widespread confusion among CoB junior faculty
when it comes to the research requirements for tenure and promotion. When the AACSB Peer Review team met with
untenured CoB faculty, they asked "how many?" publications were required to get tenure in USM's business college.
The answers reportedly were: 6, 7, and 3. At that point, people stopped guessing. The mean from this set of answers is
5.3, and the standard deviation is 2.1 -- that's enough to produce a coefficient of variation equal to 39.6%. Amazing!
