MICHAEL DUGAN, PROFESSOR OF ACCOUNTANCY AND
HORNE PROFESSOR OF ACCOUNTANCY
(April 4, 2010) The Three-Tiered CoB School of Accounting The potential addition
of University of Alabama accountant Michael Dugan to the CoB’s School of
Accounting does, as the recent . . . Breaking News . . . report indicates, create a
three-tiered accounting school, at least as far as A-level publications goes. At the
top of the SoA – the Tier 1 faculty – are two current CoB accountants, and, of
course, Dugan (should he join the SoA). Their relatively high number of A-level
contributions are pictured below.
(April 6, 2010) GH Chatter Word around JAG is that Michael Dugan may not be the only new ACC hire for 2009-10.
Chatter has it that CoB dean Lance Nail and SoA director Skip Hughes are planning to hire a new MPA director. Not
only that, the oft-stated salary for the position is $175,000 per year. Some are saying that this hire is separate from the
Dugan hire, while others insist that Dugan is set to become the new MPA director.
(April 6, 2010) 31st & Pearl CoB Stimulus Package Something CoB dean Lance Nail perhaps failed to properly
account for when ousting the CoB’s economics faculty is the combination of their low cost and wide applicability.
Under previous b-school deans, the economists were covering undergraduate and graduate economics courses,
undergraduate and graduate statistics courses, and undergraduate international business courses. In fact, this was
also happening during the early (2008-10) portion of Nail’s current reign. To top this all off, the CoB could, and still
can, acquire economists for only 70-something thousand dollars apiece.
(April 6, 2010) breaking news . . . Dugan to Join CoB Accounting Faculty HATTIESBURG – Reports have been coming
into the USMNEWS.net news division for some time stating that Michael Dugan, the Ernst & Young Professor of
Accounting at the University of Alabama, will be joining the CoB’s accounting faculty in 2010-11. Dugan, who earned
a DBA from the University of Tennessee, has been affiliated with UA for a number of years, and is believed to be
headed to Hattiesburg to become the inaugural holder of the CoB’s new Horne LLP Endowed Professorship in
Accounting.
(April 7, 2010) GH Chatter There is some mixed chatter popping up about prospective new CoB accounting Michael
Dugan from Alabama. The phrases “straight shooter” and “nice guy” are popping up here and there, as is the belief
that he can be a political player. Of course, these are mixed signals. If you know the CoB, then it’s difficult to imagine
that the latter description isn’t the accurate one. Again, time will tell.
