D. HAROLD DOTY, FORMER DEAN, COLLEGE OF
BUSINESS, CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT
TYLER
(April 11, 2011) Dear usmnews.net, I hear that the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of
Kentucky is looking for a new dean. Rumor has it that Harold Doty immediately applied. Sadly for Harold, after
the search committee checked his references, Harold’s application went into the “better luck next time” file.
(April 26, 2011) Cesspool President A GUEST EDITORIAL The recent news reports and editorials here at
USMNEWS.net about the USM-related mess at the University of Texas at Tyler provides a cautionary tale for
those seeking to land a top-level administration position in higher education. UT at Tyler president Rodney
Mabry hasn’t handled the mess very well thus far, and with former USM business college dean Harold Doty at
the center of it all, that lack of managerial acumen will most likely come at great cost to the UT at Tyler
community. From misdeeds by Doty and former USM management professor Stephen Bushardt, to an anti-Doty
letter circulating within the Tyler business community, to Mabry’s misdirected swipe at rectifying the boiling
situation, things at UT at Tyler have been testy and getting worse for some time now.

During the tumultuous Shelby Thames administration (2002-07) of USM, the student newspaper, The Student
Printz, stood strong in the face of a heavy-handed set of administrators. As a result, much of TSP’s coverage of
that controversial presidency is memorable to so many who fought (1) against the Thames administration, and (2)
for the institution alongside TSP.

Once Again PART 1 In light of former CoB dean Harold Doty's litigation history, USMNEWS.net reporters
periodically check the courts near where Doty lives and works. Recent documents obtained from the Smith
County, Texas Court Clerk, indicate that Doty is once again likely headed back to court, this time in his capacity
as dean of business at the University of Texas – Tyler. (Note: University of Texas-Tyler has denied the allegations of
the Complaint.)
