D. HAROLD DOTY, FORMER DEAN, COLLEGE OF
BUSINESS, CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT
TYLER
(January 30, 2009) CoB News, 30 January 2009 “Third Tier Thieves,” by 31st & Pearl Columnist Yesterday’s issue of
CoB News showed, through Thomas Bartlett’s 28-Jan-09 article in The Chronicle of Higher Education entitled “2
Universities’ Plagiarism Policies Look a lot Alike,” just how badly the CoB’s administrators and their sycophants
behaved under former CoB dean Harold Doty. This group, including Doty, George Carter, Farhang Niroomand, Laurie
Babin and Charles Jordan actively participated in and/or countenanced the copying, without proper citation, of two
other universities’ administrative documents – the Syracuse University b-school’s academic integrity policy and the
Central Missouri State University b-school’s AACSB definitions.
(February 4, 2009) Enterprising Reader Making Splash New "Doty-AACSB Probation" T-Shirts USMNEWS.net has
recently learned that one of its own readers has the entrepreneurial spirit. Ironically, that spirit has been channeled in
the direction of former CoB dean Harold Doty, the CoB's champion of entrepreneurship studies. The two inserts
below are scans of the back of a t-shirt displaying a picture of the former CoB dean (Doty) under the headline
"PROBATION."
(February 6, 2009) GH Chatter The recent story about former CoB dean Harold Doty's mysterious years at the
University of Arkansas (1990-95) is a hot conversation topic. Some are saying that former CoB economist Charles
Sawyer was relaying to CoBers even before Sawyer's summer '06 teaching gig at UA that Doty was persona non grata
at the University of Arkansas. It has also been pointed out that former CoB interim dean Alvin Williams' UA
connections are much better than Sawyer's, and if any CoBer, past or present, knows the juicy details about Doty's
cloudy UA stint it's Williams. Though Williams isn't likely to enter the conversation, if the end of the report linked
above is any indication we may soon be getting more news about Doty and Fayetteville.
(February 6, 2009) The Former Dean’s Teaching Load The CoB has 2 former deans: Bill Gunther and Harold Doty.
Both teach only 2 classes per semester. It is true that Doty taught 3 courses in the fall, but he has only one class this
semester. He has nothing else, especially in the way of research. Gunther has the BBER that apparently exists to kill
one teaching day a semester for him. He has not published anything in the manner of quality research since his
Alabama days (if then). Since both draw salaries in the $125,000 range, what are the taxpayers getting for their money?
