(December 1, 2008) 1 Month An Update to the 2009 Louis K. Brandt Predictions With only about 30 days remaining in the eligibility period for the 2009 Louis K. Brandt Research Award, associate professor of MIS Fujun Lai looks to be destined to win the award. Since we last updated the race, only Ernest King, Akbar Marvasti and Harold Doty have made significant moves. King jumped to 3rd, just one spot ahead of Chang-Tseh Hsieh, with his recent publication in the B-level Journal of Real Estate Research. On the heels of his recent A-level hit in Applied Economics, Marvasti climbed into the top 10 (at 9th) just management’s Jennifer Sequeira. Finally, Doty’s unrated (and dubious) Journal of Current Issues in Finance, Business & Economics moved him out of the large logjam at the end and into sole possession of 34th place.

(December 9, 2008) CoB News, 9 December 2008 Doty’s 1-Course Load A subject that has not been heretofore covered by USMNEWS.net is former CoB dean Harold Doty’s teaching schedule for spring 2009. According to the USM Registrar, Doty has been assigned a 1-course load for spring 2009 that consists of a single section of principles of management (MGT 300, MGT for Org). Doty’s teaching assignments since resigning as dean of the CoB during the spring 2007 semester have been among the worst in the CoB.

Boise State Rejects Doty -- Shortly after 2008 began, Boise State University named former CoB dean Harold Doty among the finalists for its opening to lead the b-school at BSU. Shortly after that, however, BSU eliminated Doty from contention for its top business school position. BSU's rejection of Doty marked yet another in a growing list of rejections for Doty since taking the CoB's top position in 2003.

Saunders. brag is typical of the heads of many states. second tier institutions, proudly embracing the "underdog" tag that is usually placed upon these same institutions by political and business leaders who generally support a state's so-called flagship institutions. What's interesting about Saunders' statement is that it can easily be turned on its head. Doing so is particularly relevant to USM's College of Business, which, in 2007, came within a hair of losing its AACSB accreditation.
