D. HAROLD DOTY, FORMER DEAN, COLLEGE OF
BUSINESS, CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT
TYLER
(October 29, 2008) A Political Message from Hal Greene Harold Doty would have you think that he believes in faculty
governance, and that he supports applying an annual faculty evaluation fairly . . . But, his record tells a different story . .
.
(November 19, 2008 ) Politically astute (note from the editor -- the following letter was written in response to an email
received from an untenured assistant professor. The professor in question did not respond to the letter nor did he
communicate further with usmnews.net.) Dear Dr. _______________, We are planning to request publication information
(vitae) from the faculty via usmnews.net to follow up on your suggestion. We were in the process of updating your
information and realized that to do so would not only identify, but highlight you. The question our colleagues at USM’s
CoB would likely ask is why did Dr. ___________ provide information to usmnews.net? I do not believe my concerns
are unfounded. Not long ago, another untenured assistant professor who communicated with usmnews.net providing
thoughtful input and advice was handed a terminal contract, only six months before he went up for tenure. To be clear,
the young faculty member had an almost certainly tenurable record.
(November 24, 2008) GH Chatter Believe it or not, but some CoBers are saying that former CoB dean Harold Doty is
close to landing a new appointment at an institution west of the Mississippi River. It's difficult to imagine why another
university would want Doty now, especially after all that has been exposed about him and his shortcomings since his
arrival at USM back in 2003. If this yet unnamed institution flips the switch, we could know something by Christmas
break.
(November 25, 2008) Letters to the Editor Dear USM news, Your GH Chatter entry about Doty taking a job is interesting.
I am hearing that he may have a new one, and it might not be with the University of North Texas, as has been reported
before. Just a hint: From what I've heard, it's in that same region. Good luck to him.
(November 25, 2008) Guest Editorial Happy Thanksgiving Finally, no lists of thanks would be complete without props
to former CoB dean Harold Doty. Without Doty the CoB would not now have Syracuse's academic integrity policy nor
Central Missouri's AACSB definitions. Without Doty, the CoB would never have had the local sheriff's PRIDE acronym
nor that management text's "Developing Careers" chapter title.
