(March 5, 2008) By George . . . The Second A Look at the Text of George Carter's Denigration of Harold Doty EFIB
Chair George Carter's excoriation of former CoB Dean, Harold Doty, has been the subject of numerous reports and
editorials here at USMNEWS.NET. Even with all of the reporting, and the incredible "What George Carter Thinks"
series that has augmented the many reports, USMNEWS.NET readers have not had access to the wider text of
Carter's comments about Harold Doty's shortcomings. That is, up until now that access has not occurred.ings are
decided by department heads, without consultation with the other department heads or the Associate Dean.
D. HAROLD DOTY, FORMER DEAN, COLLEGE OF
BUSINESS, CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT
TYLER
(March 7, 2008) Strategic Human Resource Management in the CoB With all of the difficulties in hiring facing the
CoB each year, one would hardly know that former CoB Dean, Harold Doty, was a strategic human resource
management guru. Maybe he's not. Since arriving in 2003, Doty has witnessed the loss of almost 50 business
faculty, with most of it during his reign as Dean (2003-2007). Doty has turned strategic human resource
management on its head.
(March 8, 2008) 31st & Pearl What did Carter Know, and When Did He Know It? "So . . . we can rise up about Doty,
but the President can't fire Doty. It's an 'open secret' the [IHL] Board has told the President 'You don't fire anybody
else.' We can't fire him [Doty], only the President can. So he's [Doty] not going to get fired until we get a new
President. He's not going to get another job." (EFIB Chairman, George Carter, 2006)
(March 18, 2008) 31st & Pearl They Should Know Not one of the CoB's former Deans has been able to
successfully use the position as a stepping stone to bigger and better administrative posts. That fact includes the
two most recent occupiers of the second floor Dean's suite in Greene Hall, William Gunther and Harold Doty. To
the contrary, Gunther was fired in January of 2003, while Doty submitted a surprising resignation in April of 2007.
Today, with the benefit of hindsight and additional information, Doty's resignation looks more like the type of "let
go" scenario Gunther faced five years ago.
(March 24, 2008) Pent-Up Doty Former CoB Dean D. Harold Doty hasn't held an administrative post in almost 12
months. After resigning as CoB Dean, on 9 April 2008, amidst a cloud of controversy, Doty has tried to land the top
position elsewhere, first at Clemson then at Boise State. Like so many past attempts, such as those at both North
and South Florida, Doty's candidacy fell flat.
