(January 28, 2008) Doty's Great Raid of New Orleans, 2006-07 by Duane Cobb At the beginning of the Fall 2006 CoB faculty meeting, former CoB Dean Harold Doty stood awkwardly before CoB faculty, as he usually did on such occasions, and introduced new faculty. Near the back of the room stood current SAIS Director Steven Jackson, who Doty introduced as a new CoB faculty who would be joining USM in January of 2007. Jackson was, at that time, employed by Loyola University in New Orleans as the LeBlanc Professor of Business Ethics.
(January 29, 2008) CoB News, 28 January 2008 Jackson’s Professional Judgment? If accounting professors were beginning to question how SAIS Director Steven Jackson would interpret the in one’s area/discipline part of his new directive on research expectations in accounting, Jackson cleared that up quickly by informing them all that it was his prerogative, as Director of the “SOAIS,” to make the determination.
(February 5, 2008) 31st & Pearl Dotyology 101 Now that the CoB's Undergraduate Programs Committee (UPC) is busy building a 1-hour course in regression for EFIB Chairman George Carter and Carter's best friend, Edward Nissan, perhaps they have time to implement some course offerings that might actually do some good for CoB students. One we have in mind could be called "Dotyology 101," and it would be designed to help students avoid beating down the sort of "riches to rags" career path that former CoB boss, D. Harold Doty, seems to have been on since arriving in Hattiesburg almost five years ago.
(February 6, 2008) CoB News, 5 February 2008 Dow Plunges Again . . . and Without Any Nonsense from Doty On 5-Feb-2008, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged more than 350 points, making 5-Feb-2008 a day reminiscent of 27-Feb-2007, when the Dow fell 416 points. There is one major difference, however. That is, Harold Doty is not the CoB’s Dean today, though he was back on 27-Feb-2007.
(February 8, 2008) Doty Now a Cartoon-Like Character by Duane Cobb Former CoB Dean, D. Harold Doty, is now simply a cartoon-like character, and one whose antics are so unbelievable that they resemble the kind of urban legend that one is never able to fully square with reality. The recent 31st & Pearl column entitled "Dotyology 101"reminds us that his career path has largely been a"riches to rags" one, primarily as a result of his mishandling of his worst enemy -- himself.
(February 10, 2008) And then who? Tony Henthorne, current Chair of about half of the CoB, is making it clear to anyone who will listen that he does not want to be Chair of MKT/MGT/FM next year. He received no extra money for this job, he claims, and did it as a favor for Interim Dean Williams (as speculated here previously). Given the rocky year at the helm, it is no wonder he seeks the relative solitude of only Tourism Management. It is time to enjoy the fine new suite the CoB provided for him. Before moving on to the proposed post-Henthorne year(s), let’s recap some of the low-lights of the year for Dr. Henthorne:
