D. HAROLD DOTY, FORMER DEAN, COLLEGE OF
BUSINESS, CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT
TYLER
(July 23, 2007) The Road to 100 The CoB is Not on It, but Some of Its Former Faculty Are When Harold Doty arrived in
Hattiesburg in the summer of 2003 as the new Dean of USM's College of Business and Economic Development, he
told CBED students, faculty, donors, and USM administrators that he was taking the CBED down the road to 100, a
reference to Doty's goal of putting USM's business school in the nation's Top 100. That was 2003, and this is 2007.
The CoB sits worse off than it was before Doty arrived in 2003, and, as the 31st & Pearl column "Black to Fade"
describes, the CoB has been riding a 10-year slide since the departure of Tyrone Black as its (then CBA) Dean.
(July 24, 2007) Giving Advice to Doty is Pointless by Duane Cobb In what recess of former CoB Dean D. Harold
Doty's mind did he believe that Susan Doty's (his wife's) pursuit of the Directorship of the EFIB's Center for
Economics Education was a good idea, politically? Doty has been trying to land a bigger, better Dean's job since
arriving at USM in the summer of 2003, and his fleeting hopes at doing that have been well-documented here at
USMNEWS.NET over the past 18 months or so. Now this. They, the Dotys that is, had to know that this would make
news, that "Ms. Doty's" -- to use EFIB Chairman George Carter's term -- attempt to get a job in the CoB would be seen
as a blatant case of nepotism. And, that's putting it in the best of terms.
(July 29, 2007) Split the Baby? Not so Fast! The past two years, and two CoB administrations, offer an interesting
comparison of administrative salaries. Take a look at the following data: Academic Year Administration Salaries
2007-08 Williams-Peyrefitte $291,850 2006-07 Doty-Niroomand $296,862 The combined salaries of Interim CoB Dean
Alvin Williams and Interim CoB Associate Dean Joseph Peyrefitte fall within 1.7 percent of the combined
compensation of their predecessors, former CoB Dean Harold Doty and former CoB Associate Dean Farhang
Niroomand. However, when it comes to pay that is where the similarity ends for these two administrations.
(August 2, 2007) 31st & Pearl FINito With the departure of Sean Salter, and with him the CoB's real estate program,
the finance unit's final chapter appears be in press. What has transpired along the southern corridors of Greene Hall
over the past 2 years goes to show, once again, that what takes years to build can be brought down virtually over
night.
