D. HAROLD DOTY, FORMER DEAN, COLLEGE OF
BUSINESS, CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT
TYLER
(June 25, 2007) 31st & Pearl Harold's Rock It has been more than two months since Harold Doty resigned his post as
Dean of USM's College of Business. I fully expected him to have started his own business college somewhere across
town by now, but I guess that's not in the cards. Searching for a new job as Dean elsewhere is in the cards, as
evidenced by Doty's frantic play to land the top position in the b-school at Clemson University. Though Doty may say
he was among the "finalists" for the position, we would argue that even attempting to land the job was a big mistake
for the young lad.
(June 25, 2007) Do the Hattiesburg-Area Realtors Know the CoB’s Real Estate Program is Dead? Former CoB Dean
Harold Doty may have refused to cancel the CoB’s real estate major, as he told a crowd of faculty and administrators
at the University of South Florida during his Sept-05 job interview in Tampa, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t
terminate all of the program’s faculty, which he did during the spring of 2007. In doing so, Doty effectively killed the
CoB’s real estate program, which sources state was tops in the State of Mississippi at the time the axe fell.
(June 27, 2007) 31st & Pearl Deans & Sabbaticals The recent report that Interim Dean Alvin Williams has been
awarded sabbatical leave for one part of the 2007-08 academic year questions whether or not Deans can take
sabbaticals.

(July 6, 2007) Doty Theories . . . and More by Duane Cobb Discussions about former CoB Dean D. Harold Doty’s
chances of landing a job as dean elsewhere often place people in two separate camps. There are those who believe
his bad behavior even before the AACSB visit in Feb-07 doomed his prospects for moving up, or on, in the academic
world.
