(May 24, 2007) Money, Money, Money, Money Consulting and Paid Service in USM’s College of Business This
report examines the consulting and paid service that faculty in the CoB are performing, at least according their own
SEDONA files (as of May 2007). As you will see below, some of the CoB’s least research-active faculty are
engaging in significant amounts of consulting and paid service, all of which enhances their (in some cases bloated)
USM salaries. At the bottom of each consulting/paid service bio below, we provide salary data for 2006-07 along
with a projected salary for 2007-08. Enjoy.
(June 14, 2007) Davis, Green Get New iPods for Instruction The CoB’s Donna Davis (Professor of MIS) and Evelyn
Kwan Green (Instructor of Tourism Management) were recently named among the 12 winners of USM’s
“Podcasting Pilot project,” which was kicked off in USM’s Learning Enhancement Center on 8-Jun-07. According
to USM Public Relations officials, the 12 faculty members were selected “based on proposals that demonstrated a
commitment to improving student learning through the use of innovative technologies.” The 12 winners, along
with LEC officials, are shown below:
(June 25, 2007) iCoB by Duane Cobb The recent report on the selection of Donna Davis and Evelyn Green to
participate in USM’s new Podcast Pilot Project fits real well with usmnews.net editor’s recent open letter to former
CoB Dean Harold Doty. The letter deals with aspects of the CoB’s Wall Street Journal Academic Partnership
Program (WSJAPP), a program that assesses a tuition fee to provide daily copies of the WSJ to CoB students, while
CoB professors receive copies for free. Like the WSJAPP, students in Davis’ and Green’s classes may now feel it
necessary to acquire iPods in order to keep up in class, given Davis’ and Green’s participation in the pilot project
described in that report. Of course, Davis and Green get iPods for free.
(March 4, 2008) Breaking News Back to the Well HATTIESBURG – Reporters at USMNEWS.NET have learned
that the CoB’s central administration has once again called upon MIS professor, Donna Davis, to spearhead an
administrative effort for the college. Interim CoB Dean, Alvin Williams, recently named Davis Interim Director of
Graduate Programs for the CoB, a position Davis inherits from assistant professor of management, Francis Daniel,
who is leaving USM after the 2007-08 academic year. Davis has held several quasi-administrative posts in the CoB
over the past several years.
(March 10, 2008) GH Chatter Now that MIS professor, Donna Davis, has been installed as Director of Grad
Programs for the CoB, some are saying that the GMAT scores of incoming cohorts will renew the slide they have
been on in the past. One reader even projects that the programs' online presence will grow under Davis' guidance.
If the past means anything in these cases, it's hard to argue with these water cooler predictions.pursuit of such a
lofty position, and that he is in competition with former CoB Dean Harold Doty on occasion.
