(January 25, 2007) Niroomand’s Nemesis The CoB’s Center for Financial Services One of the most interesting aspects of
the CoB’s organizational structure since the turn of the 21st Century is the evolving relationship between CoB Associate
Dean Farhang Niroomand and the CoB’s Center for Financial Services (CFS). One would think that this particular
relationship would be harmonious and productive, given that Niroomand is an economist. However, this particular
relationship has been one of the most acrimonious in the CoB over the past several years. Thanks to assistance from
USMPRIDE.COM sources, this report delves into the history of this tumultuous relationship.
(February 16, 2007) Special Report Will John Clark Get a "Make-Up Call" on the 2007 LKB Award? An Investigative Series
on CoB Faculty Research Credentials The CoB Awards Banquet is approaching and, because this is an odd-numbered
year, the Louis K. Brandt Faculty Research Award is up for grabs once again. As usmpride.com has reported, this award
has become mired in controversy over the past several years due to administrative tinkering, aimed at what sources say
have been outcomes favorable to political supporters of the CoB's administration.
(March 6, 2007) Special Report Don’t Like Your Teaching Schedule? Change It! An Investigative Series on the Use of the
CoB’s Budget Sources tell usmnews.net that associate professor of finance (and Director of the Center for Financial
Services) John Clark has, acting independently, changed his spring 2007 teaching schedule. Clark’s assigned spring 2007
teaching schedule reflected a two-course load (with only one prep), taught on two days each week. As other reports at
usmnews.net point out, Clark’s teaching load is reduced from the usual 3-course load of research active faculty to his
current two course load on the basis of Clark’s management of the CFS.
(March 9, 2007 ) Two Boondoggles are Better than One by Duane Cobb I was recently informed by usmnews.net Reporter
that the CoB's Center for Financial Services is now working to help CoB Dean Harold Doty's spouse, Susan, in her
campaign to provide economic education instruction to Mississippi educators. This new plan calls for a financial literacy
effort, supported by the CFS and its Director John Clark, that would reach students and/or educators throughout South
Mississippi. As a result, two of the CoB's centers -- the CFS and the Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) --
will be fully engaged in Susan Doty's education initiative.
