An Investigative Series on CoB Travel "This "Special Report" continues a multi-part examination of Employee Travel Vouchers in USM's College of Business. In this report, we examine the details of Edward Nissan's (Professor of Economics) September 1996 trip to Nicosia, Cyprus. This report could be important in many ways. We have received a number of "tips" that point out that Nissan has a penchant for missing weeks of classes at a time, usually at the beginning of each semester. Many times in the past, EcoFinIB Chair George Carter has covered his classes. Some readers have told us that they suspect that Nissan visits London during these "missing" intervals, perhaps to teach courses/research at London-based institution(s). Well, Nissan's 1996 visit to Cyprus is the beginning of an investigation into readers' tips...".

(August 15, 2006) The Ethics Professor and the Company Man "Students in the USM College of Business are required to take an ethics course - PHI 300 - which focuses on business ethics. The course is often taught by George Carter, Chairman of the Department of Economics, Finance, and International Business and Professor of Economics. References show that Carter's Ph.D. from Texas A&M University is in Economics, and a further search reveals that his baccalaureate degree from USM is in Mathematics, while his master's degree, also from USM, is in Economics. Perhaps Carter completed some ethics coursework as an undergraduate or as a Naval officer, but no formal ethics coursework is present in his SEDONA file. The reader should be aware that there are various scholarly journal outlets for ethics manuscripts, and there is, of course, the option to write and publish books on the subject...".

The CoB administrative team has grown a lot over the past few years, and Carter's ethics recipe doesn't exactly specify whose ethics are to be emulated. Given the lack of direction in Carter's model, we are left on our own to do a little "ethics shopping" from CoB administrators, past and present...".
