(May 19, 2009) GH Chatter So much of the above chatter entry is about FIN. Speaking of FIN (again), chatter has it
that the new department of finance, real estate and legal studies (FINRELS) is facing a dire budget situation, thanks
largely to some serious mismanagement by soon-to-be-former EFIB chairman, George Carter. It seems that Carter
was funding Sami Dakhlia's "EFIB Fridays" seminar series out of general (E & G) funds, not from monies coming
from the USM Foundation, as expected. Now, budgets for things like phones are bone dry, and as a result, new
FINRELS chairman Francis Laatsch will soon be terminating phone service (and perhaps other essentials) from that
quarter. CoBers should thank Carter and Dakhlia when (more like if) they are encountered in the JAG hallways over
the coming days.
(June 5, 2009) Carter Thunk It The popular "one year ago today" series here at USMNEWS.net recently reminded us
all. Former CoB dean Harold Doty is [deleted]. Management professor David Duhon was undeservedly promoted.
The Undergraduate Programs office is the epitome of inefficiency. Management journals are basically schlock.
There are no scholars in accounting. The top scholar in economics is Ed Nissan. When faculty "take on"
administrators, faculty get "stuffed." It is ill-advised for untenured faculty to leave an institution before getting
tenure. USM, as an institution, is rapidly spiraling downward. These, and more, are all thoughts had by EFIB
chairman George Carter in either 2006 or 2007.
(June 25, 2009) Carter Still Up to Old Tricks Long-time EFIB chair George Carter may be done with administration
given the CoB's recent reorganization, but that didn't stop him from tossing one more uneven course schedule out to
his friends and administration sycophants. The snapshot below from the fall 2009 course schedule guide for ECO
shows that Akbar Marvasti continues to be a Carter favorite in terms of the scheduling game.
(June 25, 2009) Has Dakhlia Gone Clinical? Long-time EFIB chair George Carter may be done with administration
given the CoB's recent reorganization, but that didn't stop him from tossing one more uneven course schedule out to
his friends and administration sycophants. The snapshot below from the fall 2009 course schedule guide for ECO
shows that Sami Dakhlia may have been put on the same clinical teaching track that has been enjoyed by Carter and
Carter favorite Charles Sawyer, who is now with Texas Christian University.
(July 30, 2009) Carter Nailed It Former EFIB chair, and CoB economics professor, George Carter nailed it a while
back when he said that the CoB's economists tended to be intemperate, or not collegial, and as a result they had
become pariahs in Joseph A. Greene Hall. Fortunately for USMNEWS.net readers, Carter did not know his
comments were being saved for posterity (they are now in the USMNEWS.net audio library), otherwise he would not
likely have been so candid. He is, after all, as big a part of the ECO cabal as anyone else, so his condemnation
applies to him just like it does to some of the other dismal scientists roaming the halls of USM's b-school.
