(October 7, 2008) The Carter Bunch A Look at How George Carter's Politics May Ruin the Nail Administration Have no doubts about it, EFIB chairman George Carter is on a mission to bring down the new Lance Nail administration of USM's College of Business. And, with the hiring and firing and "friendraising" efforts he has made over the past two decades, he may indeed pull it off before it is all over. This column is Part 1 in a three-part series of opinion pieces that will attempt to explain just how Carter may pull off the coup that some in the CoB are hoping for and others are nervous about.
(October 10, 2008) GH Chatter Apparently EFIB chair George Carter and some of the boys in EFIB aren't too happy about new CoB dean Lance Nail's plans for allocating private donations. That's interesting because it was Carter's administration hero, former CoB dean Harold Doty, who instructed us all that private donations are "fun money" that end up in the "booze account."
(October 17, 2008) It's a Violation Would “tax-funded resources” include a university-supplied telephone, fax, computer and email capabilities, printers and copiers, and office space? Would consulting income from working as a paid expert for various law firms be considered “personal gain”? What if some of this consulting is done during normal business hours from a chairman’s university office while he is getting paid by tax dollars to be a chairman and not a consultant? Even if the university attorney “approved” this, does it matter? Can he legally approve it? This is what George Carter has done, and continues to do, from his office in the College of Business at USM.

Carter relented and corrected the teaching schedule only after being put in a bad light by a series of hallway conversations and e-mails (between various EFIB/CoB faculty) that harped on the Constitutional questions surrounding Carter's administrative action.

(October 24, 2008) Perks for Buds XX Springtime for Ed Old George Carter hands his publisher another fine schedule for the 2009 spring semester. Ed Nissan has 3 classes, but all are in 3-hour blocks, rather than in the traditional two-day schedule. This gets Ed a teaching schedule that covers only Monday afternoon and night, and Tuesday afternoon. Everyone does not get that option.
